Many in the right would be howling if a Muslim burned a Bible. After all, they say there's a "war on Christmas" just because people say "happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas."

To the people who think that all Muslims are violent extremists, please educate yourself on the religion AND the Middle East. Even the countries in the Middle East have had to deal with extremists fighting Muslims. It's disgusting to judge an entire group of people and only basing your judgments off of what you see on the television, which is widely sensationalized. Egypt, for an example, has been having to deal with radical extremists loooong before the U.S. has had to and so have other places in that area. Islamic people don't hate Christians or Jewish people because they all worship the same god and Muslims believe in the same exact prophets that Christians (including Jesus) and Jewish people believe in.

Where did I say you didn't value freedom of speech or religion? You fairly much are telling me that standing up for those rights makes me someone who is fearful of my own culture.. that isn't true. I am saying that your assertion that I am a dupe is because you fear Islam, and that makes you ethnocentric.

I'm not afraid of Islam, Julia. I'm just not a potential buyer. I do have issues with those who believe they are special though, and I believe there are highly educated fools willing to embrace any culture other than their own, even if that other culture is significantly more violent, misogynistic, superstitious, and ethically unpalatable. I do fear suppression of free speech and religion. I'm quite the asshole, when it comes to these things. I'm perfectly happy to look at this jackass in the OP as nothing but a jackass, but if he winds up murdered because of it, I'll call him a martyr. So should you, but we'll burn that bridge when we come to it, I suppose.

It's really difficult to legislate against stoooopidity. The sad thing is the stooooopid people are rarely the ones who suffer the consequences of their stooopidity. The ones who will suffer will be the troops in Afghanistan and the civilians who will get caught up in the resulting firestorm.

Although it's not a very "Christian" act, I have no problem with anyone choosing to burn whatever it is they choose. It is your right and it should be protected. What is astounding is the hypocrisy. So much for the words of Christ. We are an ignorant people and our love of sound bytes and sweeping generalizations make us very susceptible to half truths or outright falsehoods. 22% of the of the Word's population are Muslim. About 1 million or so of those live in the States. Not only should they not be applauded, we should hold our media responsible as well. Neither jones nor this guy would have made anything more than a local stir if it hadn't been for the media. Which makes you wonder when it comes to sharing blame for attacks that might result, who bears the bulk of the responsibility. A fruitcake or those feeding at the trough?

Couple of points: Moderate muslim organisation are constantly 'denouncing' shit, it just doesn't make the news. People saying that murder is wrong isn't as interesting as whatever it is we're all going to die from today. Re:Cutting off heads, USA has the death penalty too numbnuts. As for the whole thing......there is an argument for burning the Koran, imagine a metaphor where Islam is medically obese, constantly offending Islam without suffering gods wrath is jogging, and the riots (that've already resulted in deaths) are the threat of a heart attack. Get the lard arse jogging, and he could have a heart attack....but Drs generally recommend it anyways. I don't credit OP with being sophisticated enough to make this arguement, but it is out there.

OMG...ONE man burns a COUPLE PAGES of ONE Kuran at/near Ground Zero on 9/11...such a religiously insensitive, intolerant and provocative act the world has never known!!!! The U.S. military being ordered to burn a COUPLE HUNDRED BIBLES sent to our troops in Afghanistan for Christman last year pales in comparison....NOT!!!!!
