i moved to the middle of hickville this summer, looking for a better life for me and the young ones. #2 son has joined the football team at his school where i was informed by the assistant principal "football's a big deal around here". yeah, i'd say so when a third of the town's official body count fills the stands every friday night, the town's entire ambulance force shows up and it seems like every damn thing closes down until after the game. god help me!

Football doesn't even come into my reality and hasn't since I was a kid. I haven't ever been involved with a sports fan, my son isn't a sports fan, I know no sports fans, and I do not listen to the radio very often

Ah, Julia, you haven't heard?
All us Taoists have found that football actually adds to our Chi. Baseball too but not basketball for some reason.
Football/baseball= "ying and yang."
"The sport that is named but has no name."

How is this related to Obama?

I would suggest you block me, Howie Carr would approve

One third of the senior boys in my son's class are playing football. I go to all his games, my mother was a Jets fan, my ex was a Giant's fan and I am pleased to say I still do not understand the rules of the game.

I root for the clock. Only 1:38 to go! Go clock!

However at all the school games I've been to, there's an ambulance standing by. Just in case. Two games ago one of my son's closest friends had his shoulder dislocated. My doctor was in the stands watching the game, came down and popped it back into place for him. That you only get in small towns and I'm profoundly grateful people here do that.
