ORIGINAL: willbeurdaddy ridiculous spin. What spin is that Willbeur? From one of your own, unless you think RedState has suddenly become part of the liberal media conspiracy: Ronald Reagan: The great RINO of American history | RedState Who the fuck is redstate and what makes them "one of my own"? the spin? First of all, the entire premise of the article is that there is a monolithic set of principles that applies to any given "variety" of conservatives. As far as their Reagan analysis goes: Fiscal policy...they claim Federal employment rose 60,000 under Reagan and fell 373,000 under Clinton. They neglect to mention that the bulk of those were military jobs in both cases. Hardly a violation of most conservatives' position. They talk about the growth in decifits, neglecting to mention that deficits fell as a % of GDP. The supposed tax increases were not tax rate increases, but closing loopholes, again, not a violation of most conservatives' position, nor were the reforms to SS. Domestic policy...his actions as Governor of CA have no bearing on a discussion of Presidential policies. The rest of that section perpetuates the myths that conservatives are "anti-environment" and opposed to reasonable gun controls. The immigration failures were in the implementation, not in the bill itself. Foreign policy...nit picking beyond belief. Social views...the only arguably legitimate point on his Presidential actions was appointing SDO to the Supreme Court. However, he campaigned on appointing the most qualified woman, and she was a moderate endorsed by that staunch liberal Barry Goldwater. Reagan was against abortion but was never a pro-life zealot, and would not have changed his nomination even if SDO was staunchly pro-choice, which she wasnt. She upheld but didnt support the expansion of RvW. So, they make up their own rules about what a Reagan conservative is and then provide misleading information about what he actually did. Thats spin in my book.
