Whose fat arses are they supporting? Unless you own a company that's too cheap to pay to have stuff manufactured domestically, that arrangement is shafting you, rather than doing anything for you.

The reason we in the West have such fat waistlines has everything to do with the fact that we can get Indian sweatshop workers to slave away for 20 hours of the day for a few dollars. We get most of our consumer goods at a major discount on what it would cost us to produce in our own countries. Where does that discount come from? That's right - people working in factories abroad get paid a discount wage, and work in discount conditions with discounted health and safety and environmental protections.

I was just thinking that the discount isn't really big enough: for what it costs to produce, that stuff should be a lot cheaper.

Of course if you had the slightest understanding of Canadian economics you would also know that you depend on a strong US economy. Since the social issues dont affect you one iota, and the fiscal issues are critical to you, if you had half a brain you would be looking for massive changes in Congress.
