Personally I don't know nearly as much about the truth of love as much as the chemical processes involved.  Still, if the unquenchable thirst for life is real, then so must the emotion to share it... even if it all starts with a lie.

I want so badly to believe that "there is truth, that love is real"
And i want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd
I know you're wise beyond your years, but do you ever get the fear
That your perfect verse is just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by?

And I cannot guess what we'll discover
When we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another’s
And not one speck will remain

Electric Light Orchestra - Can't Get It Out Of My Head

Midnight on the water
I saw the ocean's daughter
Walking on a wave's chicane
Staring as she called my name

And I can't get it out my head
No I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head

Breakdown on the shoreline
Can't move, it's an ebb tide
Morning don't get here tonight
Searching for her silver light

And I can't get it out my head
No I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head

Bank job in the City
Robin Hood and William Tell
And Ivanhoe and Lancelot
They don't envy me
Sitting till the sun goes down
In dreams the world keeps going round and round

And I can't get it out my head
No I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head

Heard a bitchin' cover of this by Muse today that just rocked-got me to thinking-these could be the theme lyrics for a Switch...or CollarMe :-)

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I Travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?

Coral reefs have their ways of just sinking ships
And all the fish with sharp teeth wait for it
Lifeless bodies live among debris
For all of the ugly gulls to see

We'd still be alive
If devils knew how to fly
All weightless and we'd float
But on the ocean they choke

They'll just swallow us up into tiny bits
I swear it looks worse than it really is
Strange worlds I thought
Would never show their face
But now I'm feeling we should never leave this place

We'd still be alive
If devils knew how to fly
All weightless and we'd float
But on the ocean they choke

Sure, we know how to swim
But sometimes it's best to give in
We'll hold our breath now, forever
And hope for the best

All you wordy people.

When I was a boy, my sister grabbed all the words, I grabbed all the music.

I never understood it when she or another said "I don't like that song, because they said ... etc.."

I was too busy listening to the music, and my better ears and innate musical sensibilities were attuned to that. I couldn't understand even half the words when I was a boy, or even now, my ears hijacking such attempt, to their own purpose.

The last movements of Ravel's 'Ma mère l'oye' or Debussy's 'La Mer' make me lie on the floor and wonder what happened.

But what is it with all this French? I don't know, it's just what came to mind.

For me, it's both - I can relate to something lyrical, but I do also get really caught up in musical things. This thread is for lyrics, though, so I can't post the way I feel listening to Joshua Bell playing Praeludium and Allegro, though I did post a link to I somewhere back there.
I love when a chord progression gives you chills, or a phrase makes you lose track of time. And the conntrasts in character in an instrumental piece when the same phrase is played in different sections. It's like listening to the sounds of people talking. Or even the nuances of bodies performing the same movement, but in their own way. No two 3/4 shimmies look alike. :p

In any event, attempting to contribute to the subject as others here are, I like the ELO mention earlier, "Can't Get It Out Of My Head." The time change coming out of the middle is cute and clever, and the 'anthemic' nature of the song is appealing too. Just one of those melodies that does the trick.

Here's one from Melanie Safka, though I've had from previous experience here that her background singers are not to everyone's taste.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf5PnEEmOTw

The intro is wonderful, and then the background guys singing the "yeah yeah yeah yeah" on the 2, 3, 4, 1, then the "yeah yeah" on the following 3, 4, then same on the following 2, 3. You see how my mind works in this stuff, now. That was just 'killer' for me at the time. (of course, all the guys and ladies coming in later are wonderful too. Melanie ain't shabby either).

Oh well, that's just how it works here, and the song is fun for me.

PS

Oops, I almost forgot;

Ring the living bell
Ring the living bell
Shine the living light
Shine the living light
Ring the living bell
Ring the living bell

I've been celebrating way too long
And I've been drinking
I'm ashamed to tell
Still feel thirsty
God I want to drink the water from the well
Still feel thirsty
God I want to drink and ring the living bell
Ring the bell
Ring the living bell
Still feel thirsty
God I want to give and ring the living bell

I'm not a magic lady
But I want to sing to help the light
Descend on the earth today
Because it's gonna get dark tonight
Sing for light
Sing for living light
Still feel weak but God
I want to give and shine the living light
Still feel weak but God
I want to give and shine the living light

Been walking down the street all night
And I've been feeling kinda cold
Still feel naked
God I wanna be warm
Before I get old
And I'm cold
When I'm feeling cold
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to live and ring the living bell

Been celebrating way too long
And I have eaten much too well
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Ring the bell
Ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Still feel hungry
God I want to give and ring the living bell
Ring the living bell.

I think everyone has instances in time where some random song clip would best describe the current moment. . . at least I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.  So I thought I'd create a forum post and see who else says, "Hey, that reminds of this song!"

(Please: Keep the postings limited to just the most relevant aspect of the tune.)

So, in relevance to this first posting I submit the following:

He says, "Son, can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete.

Do your senses tingle?
Then take a chance?
In a trance,
While the lonely mingle
With circumstance?

Hitting back on the Neil, cuz he is the man...

"I am just a dreamer,
but you are just a dream,
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away."
