leadership527 -> Of men and women... the dating game (9/14/2010 1:01:18 PM)

OK, I've been doing research recently and I have a few questions to see what people here generally believe. Note, all of these questions are only relevant to the straight community... this is about males and females mating. I have no idea what, if any, differences in the data would show up for the gay & lesbian communities. I'd also ask that you not go google answers here... I'm looking for what you accept as truth.

a) Do you believe men, on the average, have more sexual partners over a lifetime than women?
b) Do you believe that men are more likely to be unfaithful than women?
c) Do you think a male's status/income is a significant driver in "attractiveness"?
d) Do you believe (in broad brush strokes) that women select for "personality" while men select for "beauty"?
e) Do you believe men are more likely than women to deceive in order to increase their chances?

Thanks

a) Do you believe men, on the average, have more sexual partners over a lifetime than women?

On average yes because of social stimgas from various groups about having a lot of partners. It's not just the conversatives who frown on it.
quote:

b) Do you believe that men are more likely to be unfaithful than women?

No. But I do believe they are more likely to be caught, for various reasons.
quote:

c) Do you think a male's status/income is a significant driver in "attractiveness"?

For some women. I'd say that for most women it either helps a bit or doesn't hurt.
quote:

d) Do you believe (in broad brush strokes) that women select for "personality" while men select for "beauty"?

Eh... not really. For quick fucks or short-term relationships, I think both select for beauty. For long-term, a combination of both. Athough I would say that a man is more likely to put up with a beautiful bitch and a woman is more likely to put up with a wealthy bastard, however those are a small portion of men and women.

e) Do you believe men are more likely than women to deceive in order to increase their chances?

Nah. We all do it. I think society is just used to how women usually lie. Body shapers, push-up bras, stuffing, lying about our age/experience, etc.

a) Do you believe men, on the average, have more sexual partners over a lifetime than women? Yes for women about my age, and older. Maybe not for those younger, though.
b) Do you believe that men are more likely to be unfaithful than women? Yes because men tend to be ruled by their hormones, and yet frightfully unaware that this is what makes them perpetually horny. So a lot of them will tend to act as their hormones dictate, without really analyzing the situation.
c) Do you think a male's status/income is a significant driver in "attractiveness"? Not to me, or any other women who make good money themselves. What is attractive to women like myself is a guy who is not a financial train wreck. We want someone who won't mess things up for us.
d) Do you believe (in broad brush strokes) that women select for "personality" while men select for "beauty"? Select what? Long term, relationship partners, or just sex partners?
e) Do you believe men are more likely than women to deceive in order to increase their chances? Yes- see above. Men want to get laid, and let themselves be ruled by this. Women need more. These are overgeneralizations of course, but you get the idea.

Thanks folks... keep em coming then I'll spill the "right" answers... well... at least as well founded scientifically as I could find. As an aside, almost all of you are more savvy than me. I would've gotten 4/5 incorrect. That makes some sense since I never participated much in the dating game which means I was relying more on societal myth than personally observed data.

a) Do you believe men, on the average, have more sexual partners over a lifetime than women?
I wouldn't know; I don't remember much of my past life as a woman. This a source of recurring regret. Oh, the things I would do to my past self.

b) Do you believe that men are more likely to be unfaithful than women?
If you count just sex - maybe. If not - no.

c) Do you think a male's status/income is a significant driver in "attractiveness"?
Sure. Although there is some benefit in unpredictable, selfish and thrill-seeking behaviour.

d) Do you believe (in broad brush strokes) that women select for "personality" while men select for "beauty"?
I'm currently wondering if it's a good idea to be interested in a young woman I know. She's fun to be around and possibly the most beautiful person I have ever seen, yet slightly shallow. I mean her favourite TV show is "Jersey Shore"... Yes, really.

I'll get back to you on that one.

e) Do you believe men are more likely than women to deceive in order to increase their chances?
No.

DomImus -> RE: Of men and women... the dating game (9/14/2010 3:16:49 PM)

a) Do you believe men, on the average, have more sexual partners over a lifetime than women?

Yes.

b) Do you believe that men are more likely to be unfaithful than women?

Yes, but only slightly. This by default would mean that women are more likely to be the other party, so to speak.

c) Do you think a male's status/income is a significant driver in "attractiveness"?

Yes. How can it not be?

d) Do you believe (in broad brush strokes) that women select for "personality" while men select for "beauty"?

Yes. I believe women are attracted to a wider range of criteria (see question C) than men and physical attraction is a significant driver for men.

e) Do you believe men are more likely than women to deceive in order to increase their chances?

Not overall, no.

d) Do you believe (in broad brush strokes) that women select for "personality" while men select for "beauty"? Yes, although there are other factors I would add also.

MercTech -> RE: Of men and women... the dating game (9/14/2010 3:23:21 PM)

a) No, but men report more experiences... brag factor
b) No, but women are more likely to keep it discreet and never mention it.. again the brag factor
c) Yes... successful appearance is an aphrodisiac. Now if I could just find a cologne that smells like money...
d) for men, beauty gets the attention. It is what is between the ears that keeps it. (personality, competance, et. al.)
e) I think men are more likely to keep quiet or avoid a subject in order to be spared long elaborate explanations
