Poverty reaches historic levels

WASHINGTON --  The withering recession pushed the number of Americans who are living in poverty to a 51-year high in 2009 and left a record 50.7 million people without health insurance, the Census Bureau said Thursday.

Notice, that they are talking in retrospect (2009).

I suspect that the numbers are higher now (2010), not lower.

So, my question:

When, exactly, does Obama and the Congressional Democrats finally "own" this?

Firm

For 20 of the last 30 years, Rethugs have occupied the White House. They controlled Congress from 1994 until 2006. That means they passed every single budget from 1995 to 2007.

When are rightards going to own up to creating the fucking disaster in the first place?

That that is your concern speaks volumes.

Misery accomplished.

They already seem to own the raw nerve this is attached to, Firm [8D]

I saw the story on my Yahoo feed this afternoon. What struck me was the AP decision to go with a photo of a really trashy house, with a couple crap cars out front for a graphic. What does being poor, even poverty stricken poor, have to do with letting your trash can stay spilled all over the front yard?

Yeah, here is the shot

Looks much like many of the country estates I've seen in my many years of wandering the backroads of rural Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and SW Virginia. Areas which, I might add, are below the national averages in every metric one cares to identify. Areas which are uniformly Fundie Xtian and hard-core Repub.

That's the far-right base.

The causes for the current recession have been building up for years, there is plenty of blame to go around. The U.S. standard of living has been in decline since the 1970's and two of the major reasons are the loss of manufacturing jobs and increased reliance on credit at high interest rates.

Here's some more wealth transfer. Where are the wealthy Refucklinazi cocksuckers helping to keep people in their homes? No, the motherfuckers are buying REOs for pennies on the dollar, then renting them to the folks that used to try and raise their families on two incomes.
Foreclosure rate maxes out

I want to see homeowners shoot the motherfuckers who try and take their homes and sweat and tears. Hooray 2nd Amendment. Kill the bankers and lawyers.

When pigs fly? And the ones on the left who post on CM are too busy coming up with cutesy little names like "rethugs" and "refucklinazi" to worry about people starving. They remind me on the kids on the playground standing around and giggling when one of their friends says a swear word.

If the right were so worried about this, there wouldnt be any question of the tax breaks going to less than 250k.  They would have went with the public option, and helped make useful rather than fight the healthcare reforms, they would have made legislation that got our infrastructure up to competitive, they would have not shipped our money and souls overseas to make war for no reason. They would have not allowed the bailout.

They would have cursed in outrage when Bush vetoed the childrens insurance payment.

Be that as it may, there is plenty of bullshit left right and center that needs accounting for.

How hard would it be for someone to clean up the yard?

Why is that my fault?

Moonhead -> RE: Poverty reaches historic levels (9/17/2010 8:30:09 AM)

Poverty's also reached prehistoric levels: word is that Fred Flintstone is having his gaff repossessed by the bank...

pahunkboy -> RE: Poverty reaches historic levels (9/17/2010 8:37:04 AM)

I can understand not having money to paint- but- that guy needs to clean his yard.

I am glad he is not a neighbor of mine.

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Poverty reaches historic levels (9/17/2010 8:38:38 AM)

Well basically both parties created this mess, starting with Bush Sr. who dreamed up this NAFTA idea, then Clinton was foolish enough to go along with it, and even make a deal of his own with the Chinese, which will be twice as disastrous as NAFTA in the long run. In fact, the Chinese are already planning on building car factories in Mexico to undercut our economy.

Here's where's democrats show a complete lack of common sense when it comes to economics though. They believe that poverty is caused because rich people accumulate money keeping it out of the hands of the little people. Therefore, their only solution is to tax the hell out of the wealthy, and upper middle class, and redistribute their wealth.

The reality is that Capitalism requires no redistribution of wealth in order for poverty to be eliminated. All it requires is that people are willing to work, they live within their means, they save some money on the side, they get experience in their caraeer or job, and if they choose to and the bank feels they are qualified, then they can begin to build their wealth as well by starting their own business. It does not require redistribution of wealth. Although it is certainly easier for wealthy people to take chances on new businesses, it in no way prevents you from doing the same.

So basically, poverty is caused by people who are unwilling to work, and unfair trade practices such as outsourcing, free trade, and illegal aliens. The responsibility of Congress is to level the playing field, and that is where both sides have failed us. Everyone of the liberals and RINO's must be voted out.

pahunkboy -> RE: Poverty reaches historic levels (9/17/2010 8:47:09 AM)

What is a RINO?

What is a RINO?

Republican In Name Only.
It's a term of abuse some use to describe elected officials who they feel aren't reactionary enough to suit their vision of the Republican party.

The questions was clear, wasn't it?

When will the Dems and Obama "own it", regardless of who "caused it"?
