ORIGINAL: TheHeretic How about Eisenhower? Or Nixon? Or Reagan? I think Clinton was already out of office when he ran. Jesus, RML, I thought I was kidding about something being very wrong with you. Well Richie, there are exceptions to every rule. And not to split hairs, but Nixon was a sitting Vice-President when he ran against Kennedy, Reagan was Governor of California when he ran for the Republican nomination in 1968, and Clinton was Governor of Arkansas when he was elected President. But let's move on to more recent history, the 2008 Presidential election. The top four competitors for the Republican nomination were Senator John McCain, Mike Huckabee, who began his campaign as Governor of Arkansas, Mitt Romney, who initiated his campaign while Governor of Massachusetts, and Congressman Ron Paul. On the Democratic side we have Senator Barack Obama, Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Joe Biden, Senator Chris Dodd, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, and Governor Bill Richardson.
