Obama: Black lawmakers must rally voters back home

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama implored black voters on Saturday to rekindle the passion they felt for his groundbreaking campaign and turn out in force this fall to repel Republicans who are ready to "turn back the clock."

***************

His speech acknowledged what pollsters have been warning Democrats for months — that blacks are among the key Democratic groups who right now seem unlikely to turn out in large numbers in November.

**************

The caucus is a group reeling from ethics charges against two leading members, Democratic Reps. Charles Rangel of New York and Maxine Waters of California. Republicans are preparing TV ads spotlighting the cases, even though House trials are now not expected until after the November election.

Obama mentioned neither case in his 27-minute speech.

Whoops - did I write post-racial?

I should have written race-baiting so-and-so...

You do realize Colbert is just parodying O'Reilly?

Or am I giving you too much credit?

Why only blacks?
He's going to need every single vote he can get.

I dunno, RML. You seem to be having memory issues tonight as well. Go look in a mirror, and stick out your tongue. Does anything look odd?

You are all signed up for Obamacare, right?

Maybe the Oprah will again come to his aid. He is going to need all the help he can get and then some. My heart breaks for him. Not hardly!

Lefty, your problem is that you never have any arguments.
You just sit back and lay in wait and then attack someone else.
And you said, 'No Opinions on this site!"
Who the fuck died and left you boss? You're going to make the rules for this site now?
The only reason I haven't put you on "block" is because I think mentally confused people are entertaining.
"RML DEEMS "OPINIONS" ON C.M. TO BE INAPPROPRIATE"

Didn't we already talk about this?

I have no problems with opinions.

I have a problem with people stating unsubstantiated facts and then trying to call them opinions when asked for proof.

Are you serious?

Telling blacks that, quote - "Republicans want to turn the clock back"?

What do you think hes referring to in that little remark if not trying to tar the right with the Democrats fight against the Civil Rights movement.

I think you would submit more informed and logical posts if you were to read the OP prior to commenting on the thread.

I am NOT an Obamafan.

Didn't vote for him, not likely to.

He reminds Me of a woman I used to know who worked for a Chamber of Commerce. She was all about "community development". Which, in truth, meant travel. Travel to meeting after meeting and conference after conference, venue after venue, resort after resort, after which she would return time and time again to the Boardroom with her reports of how successfully she had promoted our small community across the State or across the Nation. Her short tenure came to an abrupt halt when she had obliterated all of the organization's funds: there were no longer any receivables left for her traveling lifestyle. Someone's gotta pay those bills. I can't wait to see the budget reports for Obama's day trips.

However, despite Obama's lack of Statesmanship, Obama's quote that you are so profoundly misinterpreting refers to a Republican demagoguery that would have us return to an era where deregulated banks can once again ran amok unchecked across the backs of the American Populace. That is the 'clock' he is speaking of. It took political courage to take on the banks. Might have been political suicide. We don't know yet.

Face it.

Obama got some things right.

Where the black populace potentially fails to rally, I have zero doubt the great silent majority will willingly amass, instead. Believe it or not, the American Public can, and will, evaluate, analyze, and eventually choose the best potential person for the job, regardless of whether you or I may agree with their choice at the time.

One thing I DO know in the upcoming elections: "I don't want no Paper Gangsta", I don't give a damn what color he is, or isn't. No Wallstreet Financiers, no Bank Moguls, I don't want the banks or bankers to rule our country as they have since the banks were deregulated. I want it the other way around.

If that means rallying behind Obama, I just might have to 'go there'. You'll find there are many more like me out here in cyberspace than you might guess.

And, you are completely ignoring the motivational force behind our first black female president, Oprah, and her minions.......they will single handedly re-elect him.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee, Sanity.

TM

Sure, Polite. I very much doubt you are familiar with how our elections and voting districts are structured. I also appreciate you coming with a question, rather than a snide assumption, as some of your fellow subjects are known to do when joining discussions of U.S. internal affairs.

I don't know that race-baiting is the term I would choose. Pot-stirring, maybe.

I just posted this link in another thread (on the second attempt ), but since it is so very relevant to the next six weeks of political debate here, I'll post it again. Read the article or no, but do run through the slideshow towards the top left.

http://www.slate.com/id/2208216/pagenum/all/#p2

I'll massively oversimplify, and say that black voters vote in black districts. 20% turnout will re-elect Rangel and Waters as easily as 80%. Toss in President Obama's 90-95ish% approval rating among blacks as a population, and this speech was political theater.

Who was this bit of theater aimed at? Probably not the black families in my neighborhood. They don't even have a Democrat on the ticket this election he could move them to go vote for. Even a wave election, such as we are about to have, normally only puts 10-15% of the seats into play.

Much more likely, it is an attempt to nudge the knee of the guilty white liberal, but he's using the race-spoon to do it.

What?

Why would I want the GOP?

8 years of Bush was enough.

Rich, thanks for the link. Its one a.m here though so I will read it later today..thats tomorrow for you.

One thought though, in the light of one Republican ( Green or Greer ? ) saying his party does include racists, does the President have a point ?

At your leisure, Polite. It could easily be the middle of your Monday night before I'll get a chance to really respond to anything that strikes you about the messed up way we divide the representation. At least the date-line isn't in the way, huh?

Racism isn't dead in my country, and I don't see the path we are on with it, taking us away from creating more people afflicted with the condition. It isn't partisan either, no matter how hard some may try to paint it that way.

Directly to your question above, no. There is no "point" in stirring that big nasty stew, anymore. It's a big can of worms you try to dump on your opponent/s.

When I read the article, I thought it was "turn back progress" on the current Administration's policies.  Because there are plenty of Republicans and Tea Partiers that want to do exactly that.
