i have this blue silicone or soft plastic plug, it is meant to sit on a chair and then i can sit on it... which is rather lovely... ahem... anyway the thing looks like it is peeling, which is very unattractive and i am a bit sad about it, i don't wanna use it anymore now it looks all scruffy... i don't know why it would have gone 'off'... or if there is anything i can do to clean it up, does anybody else have a problem like this with any silicone or plastic toys?

A guess is that you were either using a lubricant that was incompatible with your plug, or you did not use a non-lubricated condom, since most condoms use a silicone based lube. Thank you, so it might be lube i have used... now the question is can i do something to make it look good again? and if i can't would it be detrimental in some way to use it scruffy as it is?

No... Once a silicone product has started to peel it means its degenerating and when its degenerating its gassing out more than it normally would. Putting a degenerating silicone product inside you is a health risk and so get rid and replace. A word of advice is, only ever use a water based lubricant on silicone. Silicone lubricant destroys silicone dildos.

Water-based lubricants are safe for all kinds of toys, but I thought that silicone-based lubricants were the only ones you can't use with a silicone toy. My understanding is: Petroleum-based lubricants degrade latex. You can use water-based or silicone-based lubricants with them. Silicone-based lubricants degrade silicone. You can use water-based or petroleum-based lubricants (mineral oil, petroleum jelly) with them.

Ah... i wondered about the eyes... thought you were grossed by me considering using a scruffy plug... it hurts a bit to chuck it... it is a very nice thing... and indeed it's probably vaseline that has ruined it

A quick suggestion note on Lubricants, As a cook and baker I keep Crisco in the house, And that's a wonderful lubricant, also as food based, (IE vegetable oil shortening) Its safe for any use at all, (except Maybe a cholesterol Problem ) LOL...Its also one of the least expensive Lubricants you will find anywhere

It is not only petroleum products that cause an issue with latex/rubber/and cyberskin. The boybutter website says that their regular product which contains coconut oil is not latex safe. The safer sex people say it's a no, the toy people say it's a no. It works fine for you, great!
