SuzanneKneeling -> Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 4:22:26 PM)

I'll be honest with you.  I don't really care much either way about the "shocking revelation" that tea party candidate Christine O'Donnell "dabbled in witchcraft".  Wiccans are fine with me.  They're usually good environmentalists, and often thoughtful people who've been through a lot and have the perspective that goes with that.  About the only political significance it has for me is that it once again points up the glaring hypocrisy of religious conservatives.  Imagine their utter horror if it were revealed that Obama once hung out with Wiccans during his high school days.  But for this li'l white cutie, it's all just part of growing up.  No harm no foul.  Of course, for Obama it would be further proof that he was scary and a "socialist" somehow.  (Don't ask me to explain how, but does anyone doubt that it would be portrayed this way?  If so, you may go back to sleep now.)

What does get me about her past is this little combination of morsels.  The medical community declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder back in the 1970s.  This woman barely finished her college degree this year just in time to run for the Senate (after lying about same for 17 years), forget that she doesn't have a PhD or MD.  But she knows more than the American Psychiatric Association, yessiree she does.  And as such, she has decreed homosexuality an "identity disorder" (a term which actually has specific meaning in psychiatry, which I'm sure O'Donnell hasn't the slightest clue about).

Meanwhile, in addition to having zero credentials in clinical mental health, this woman who would pronounce judgment on our fellow gay and lesbian Americans... hears voices.  Yes, audible ones, not figurative or mental ones.  They identify themselves as "God".  How many serial killers have reported this same experience?  This one actually IS in the DSM (psychiatry's accepted diagnostic framework), as a cardinal symptom of schizophrenia.

So the tea party candidate for senate is showing symptoms of schizophrenia, but freely passes judgment on gays and lesbians as mentally ill.

And this is the best the Republicans have to offer us?

I still believe the Republicans dont want control back. Proof is in the offering. [:D]

Well I am a religious conservative and I really don't care who Obama hang out with in high school. I don't care if O'Donnell dabbled in witchcraft either. So where is the hypocrisy?

SuzanneKneeling -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 5:53:36 PM)

Most evangelicals falsely (either due to ignorance or just their fervent lie-filled crusades against anything threatening to them) conflate witchcraft with Satanism.  O'Donnell does it herself in that Bill Maher show clip.   And they aren't too fond of witchcraft in the first place- recall the crusades against Harry Potter when it first got popular?  Apparently evangelicals realized they lost the public on that one, lol.

That's the hypocrisy boi.  I haven't heard a peep from them this time.   Perhaps their too worn out right now from demonizing Islam.  Maybe I should give them a few days.

Why is everyone so interested in a candidate that is 'unelectable' ? Just an observation.

slvemike4u -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:08:39 PM)

Why should the left ignore these right-wing wackos your party foists upon the American political scene ?
"You" people nominate/select these dubious characters and then bitch when we comment on their far right views ? How does that work ?

servantforuse -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:13:57 PM)

Maybe Christine O'Donnell isn't 'unelectable' afterall ? Maybe those on the left are trying to throw anything against the wall hopeing something will stick. Mor panic from the democrats.

popeye1250 -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:18:10 PM)

Suzanne, first of all no "degree" is required to run for the congress. Isn't the idea that you want one of your "neighbors" to be representing you?
Sure, a degree in accounting would be nice but do we really need any more lawyers in our govt? Look at Patrick Kennedy and his "degree" from,....."Providence College." ("I, ugh, ugh, myself, have taught myself!") I think we need "smart people" in office who are connected to and committed to "The People."
Personally I'd like to see more truckdrivers, plumbers, nurses, etc in office, you know "the common man." How about Firefighters and Police Officers?
I have a Business degree, I can assure you that you wouldn't want to see me in the congress. I don't have the temperament for it!
Secondly, O'Donnell got involved in "witchcraft" in her teens with a boyfriend who was involved in it.
Look at Rep. Barny Frank, his lover ("Hot Bottom") was running a gay prostitution ring out of his Georgetown condo and he ended up getting censured in the House because of it but, that wasn't a disqualifier for him to run again somehow. No harm, no foul, right?

slvemike4u -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:20:22 PM)

"hoping something will stick"...Have you been paying attention ?She has left a treasure trove of material in which she a)makes a fool of herself,b) embarrasses herself,c) lies ,exaggerates and otherwise distort the truth(where her personal life and finances, education is concerned).
There is shit stuck all over the damm wall.....and if you weren't such an over the top partisan apologist you would realise this!

tazzygirl -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:20:44 PM)

servant, im far from panicking. Im finding this all rather amusing. The GOP keeps tossing up these candidates that make themsevles look rather rediculous. Reminds me of the 2008 elections... they threw that one away as well, in much the same manner.

servantforuse -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:22:34 PM)

Have you two been paying attention to the polls ?

Mike, have you seen her opponent?
A "bearded marxist" by his own description! And,.....he went to,......"Amherst"...... so he may let you in the house to clean his carpets.
And then,.....to "YALE" "divinity school.
I didn't think men went there since the Vietnam war. ("2-S?")

servantforuse -> RE: Tea Party candidate O'Donnell plays psychologist, but hears voices (9/20/2010 6:34:30 PM)

Christine is behind in that race. Back to my question. Why so much interest in her when she is 10 points behind ? As for the other races, the House will go to the Republicans, the Senate probably not.

The tea-party as spoiler is a good convo and we like to see cons squirm.
