FatDomDaddy -> Hey Wal Mart... LOOK FOR THE UNION LABEL (9/21/2010 9:23:36 PM)

That evil Wal Mart, paying minimum wage and skimping on benefits! How dare they exploit the working man to ensure the long term health and growth of their organization!

People I and my wife both used to work for Wal-Mart, and with out exception it was the worst employment of my entire adult life, I live in southern NJ, and in '94 when Wal-Mart first appeared in this region I went to work for them in their  over-night receiving.  The starting wage INCLUDING a 35cent per hour night differential was $ 5.75 per hour, you try supporting a wife & 2 children on that some time in a region that is rated the 4th most costly in the USA. Go ahead defend those  misers if you will, just don't do it around me  ;-)

I wrote this on 6 Nov, 2007, there was a reply from some one claiming the minimum wage in 1994 was $4.90 and hour which may have well been the federal standard:  However the minimum wage for NJ was $5.25 an hour that year.  Wal-Mart is a scum organization, and if you wish to defend them so be it.   Be advised though they do not give a shit about employees or safety.

I will never ever buy an  item from Wal-Mart when I know for a nickle, or a dime or even a dollar more I can get the same shit at Kohl's or Target.  In fact I look at it like this Wal-Mart sells cheap made in China shit.  Kohl's and Target sell cheap made in Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, and Dominican Republic shit.  At least my dollars stay in THIS HEMISPHERE, if I buy from Kohl's or Target.

Next time you're tempted to shop "wally-world" take a fucking minute or three extra and scan the other stores ads.  If you live in an area where the only option is those fuckers, I do feel sorry for you.

Commercially,
Some Knucklehead in NJ

lol...Nope.... very real.

I wonder if julia will come here to explain astro turfing???

I have said it 1000's of times, those who boycott Wal Mart, can afford to boycott Wal Mart.

I went yestersay and bought Hines ketchup, Russle Stover sugar free mint patties, Listerene, paper towels, foam plates, a pack of socks and some t-shirts....and all of it made in America.... and no doubt made by Union workers.

I curious why does Kmart and Target gets a pass but hey... go figure the left

What does the URL say Comedy Central or Breitbart tv??  Now had you linked straight to the Daily Show I might have watched it the first time around.

My point about the cost differential though stands.  Add this point to your favoring "wally-world" : How does Costco sell the same shit as Sams Clubs for the about same prices, but has a starting wage of roughly $15.00 per hour??  Explain that one to me some time.

Seriously,

Having worked for Costco, I can tell you, not even the sample workers make min wage, but well above it. In fact they were making 11 dollars an hour at the Costco I worked at.

popeye1250 -> RE: Hey Wal Mart... LOOK FOR THE UNION LABEL (9/21/2010 11:31:02 PM)

I haven't been inside a Walmart in 6 or probably 7 years now.
I go to Costco instead because they take good care of their workers and you can tell because turnover is low, and the employees go out of their way to help you.
Here, they made $18.75 per hour but that was 2 years ago.
Pogo, WTF, you were making $5.75 an hour? I made more than that in 1974 for loading trucks. Illegal aliens made more than that for being lawn jockeys! Why didn't you get a paper route?
You were a "receiver?" I would have been doing some "receiving" alright. "Hey boss, three trucks loaded with *expensive electronics* never showed up last night." "Oh, I need a raise, I have a new Caddy ordered and those babies don't drink regular!"
What the fuck's wrong with you?
I'm going to call you "The $6 man."

Vendaval -> RE: Hey Wal Mart... LOOK FOR THE UNION LABEL (9/22/2010 12:54:07 AM)

From the Costco Webpage

"High wages
- Starting wages $10.00 to $10.50
- Scheduled pay raises up to $16.17
Flexible scheduling
Part-time and full-time hours"

Owner59 -> RE: Hey Wal Mart... LOOK FOR THE UNION LABEL (9/22/2010 7:27:25 AM)

Walmart will do whatever it takes to make money, whether that means screwing people/towns/economies or helping them.

Whatever good or positive results or situations that happen are purely coincidental.Doing the right thing isn`t part of the business model.

Wal-Mart to aggressively roll out smaller stores

http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/default/article/Wal-Mart-to-aggressively-roll-out-smaller-stores-666632.php

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is planning an aggressive push into urban markets with a new small format that's a fraction of the size of its supercenters.

The expansion, expected to be spelled out next month at the retailer's meeting with analysts at its headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., is aimed to pump up sluggish U.S. sales.

Real estate executives said that over this past summer, the world's largest retailer has been scouring for small locations, around 20,000 square feet, in urban areas including New York City, San Francisco and other cities. That size is larger than a typical drugstore but smaller than a supermarket.

joether -> RE: Hey Wal Mart... LOOK FOR THE UNION LABEL (9/22/2010 8:08:14 AM)

Instead of some 'small potatos' union, why not get some information from a REAL Union.

But that's not even the full story with Wal-Mart. Just walk through the store some time, and look at the products on sale: Made In China. Cloths, electronics, toys (most NERF stuff is China-Made), and even the candybars. Yeap, some of those cholcates have American labels, but were made in another country, and shipped back to be sold to unsuspecting Americans. Should it be any surprise that Wal-Mart alone, accounts for a sizable share of the 'China to America' trade deficit?

Wal-Mart employees are paid the Federal Minimum Wage, unless they are manage employees. Even the supervisors are generally not paid much better then the line staff. When I've been in there with friends, the general look of cashiers is dispair; like they are living in employment hell and cant get out. So yes, each Wal-Mart stores brings 200-250 jobs, but only 10% of those jobs are ones, that someone isn't living in poverty.

When I hear Republicans spewing they are against Unions AND having to pay for those on food stamps or any kind of welfare; it simply tells me where their "American Values" lay. You can not live on $7.25/hour in Massachusetts. Not even in Orange, MA! An so, those people, even though they are working, are STILL, on welfare, with very little hope of getting off of it. Why is this a hard concept for Republicans to deal with?

Rather then create solutions, that make it easier for businesses to get started, producing goods in America, for sale and export, Republicans would rather 'keep business as usual'. Since, starting up the manufacturing plants, with which to create cloths, electronics, toys, or candy bars, is pretty expensive and costly. The one, ever driving force among Republicans is, 'cost'. They hate it, like they hate taxes. So why would they be 'for' America's industry and Her workers, if it'll cost money to do?

Kind of hilarious that all those "small Business" types that are on here can't see why Walmart is bad for small business. Kind of makes you wonder. LOL

Hey pops when yer 35 years old with no college degree and you got a "wife" and two children to support you tend to do what is necessary to make ends meet.  Even if it means working two jobs, with one paying you 7.25 an hour part time and the other 5.75 an hour full time.  Weekends become very precious time in that situation.  I worked my ass of like that for a bit, and then when Wal-Mart decided to move my wife from her position (without notice) to accommodate my working past 7 am  I told them to go fuck themselves, as did she a month later.

We swore then to never give that company another dollar of our money, and so far we have managed to stick by that. Why the fuck should I patronize a store where the service is surly at best and the prices are not a hell of a lot lower than my local "FAMILY OWNED" supermarket chain (Zallie's  Shop Rite's) here in the South Jersey area.  Nor are Wally-World prices really all that much better than Kohl's Target, or Foreman Mills (another local family owned business) or even the LAST FAMILY owned FULL LINE DEPARTMENT STORE CHAIN BOSCOV's.

With all those choices available to me I find it easy as hell to avoid putting my money into Wal-Mart, and I find the nickel, or dime or even the dollar more in cost to be worth it in the service received.  As I said before for the people that live in a very rural area where the only option left is Wal-Mart I do feel very sorry for those folk.

Contemplatively,
Some Knucklehead in NJ
