Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, today filed a pair of complaints concerning Delaware Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell's use of more than $20,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses. [/snip]

[snip]
Representatives for O'Donnell, whose financial disclosure form said her earned income between March 2009 and June 2010 was just $5,800, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.[/snip]

Someone want to explain how she lived on only $5800 for a year? Something fishy in the state of Delaware.

You might try learning the definition of "earned income" first. Then you can address what may or not be "fishy". Your question clearly indicates you dont know what it means.

popeye1250 -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/22/2010 5:42:09 PM)

Wow! Only $5,800? Now that's the kind of person we need in Washington! She knows how to squeeze a quarter.

How about her opponent the "Bearded Marxist?" How much did he manage to squeek by on, $200-$400 k?
It's not cheap living in "horse country" in Delaware or Maryland!
One of those polo ponies can run you $50 k!
Hey! Wait a minute here! Who's the "Republican" in that race again?

No, she knows how to (allegedly) use campaign funds for personal expenses.

Earned Income: Income derived from active participation in a trade or business, including wages, salary, tips, commissions and bonuses.

Now, if she only made $5800 over the course of the year, just how in the hell did she manage pay her bills? Or are you trying to say that she had UNEARNED income in excess of $5800? If that is the case, what was she supposed to do to earn that money?

Any way you look at it, something isn't right.

Of course, former campaign workers have said she used campaign funds to pay her bills, and Karl Rove wanted to know why she had a tax lien on her home, how she managed to pay her bills, why her house was foreclosed on (which she sold to her boyfriend.)

servantforuse -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/22/2010 7:18:12 PM)

Who cares ? She is 11 points behind. She is unelectable anyway. Move on, nothing to see here.

And your answer to the question clearly indicates how disingenuous you are in trying to defend this loser.

Lets see, Scott Brown, was 11 points behind Martha Coakley not to long ago. Democrats have learned the lesson. So she's 11 points? That just means a few more dollars poured in to that race between now and election day. And pouring dollars in to the economy is a good thing!

I don't think it is possible to find a douchebagger who will admit to being a cheerleader for George the Dumber. Nope, they all got exposed to comic radiation and morphed to "moderat independs".

Hillwilliam -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/23/2010 6:22:43 AM)

Reminds me of a businessman from here who found himself in tax court (true story).  the Judge said "Mr XXXXXX, you live in a nice house, you have a new car every 2 years, you apparently go on vacations to FL every year and live a generally good lifestyle.  How do you explain this on your claimed income?"

The guy realized he was totally screwed (yes he served jail time) but ya gotta LOVE the balls he showed.

He said "Just goddam good management your Honor, goddam good management"

I guess Ms Odonnell might have something in common with that gentleman.

Moonhead -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/23/2010 6:29:42 AM)

Reminds me of that, "are you trying to show contempt for this court?", "No, your honour, I'm trying to conceal it," line...
Now that's balls. The other's just an idiot realising he hasn't made any effort to cover his tracks...

Where do you see me defending her? I was just pointing out jlf's limited understanding of "earned income".

Any bets that she'll poll within 5 points of Coons by 10/5?

tazzygirl -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/23/2010 9:59:55 PM)

As of 9/21, she was 15 points behind.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/24/2010 5:15:50 AM)

She's nuttier than squirrel poop.

That means she has as good a chance of winning as anyone.

samboct -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/24/2010 6:17:00 AM)

US taxes 101 from a small business perspective. You can have gross income of say $55,800, deduct the $50k needed to run the business, and have profit- aka earned income of $5,800. Hanging out in the VC world I see folks with Mercedes, yachts, etc. all of whom manage to lose money every year and therefore pay no income tax.

Since Uncle Sam taxes you at over 16% for every dollar you report as profit, (Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid-and when you do your own taxes, you realize very quickly that those programs are a tax- it says so on the form.) there's a lot of incentive for being "creative" with expenses. Unfortunately, it's also often the only way to stay in business, because realistically, you can't put enough away for a rainy day with our current tax structure.

I have a hunch the lass just didn't want to pay income taxes, which is why she came up with $5,800 as income.

Sam

tazzygirl -> RE: Watchdog: Christine O'Donnell "Clearly a Criminal" (9/24/2010 8:30:00 AM)

But, Sam, i dont think that is the case. According to the filing instructions for the disclosure form, its all income earned.

Individuals not covered by the Honoraria
Ban: For you and/or your spouse, report the
name and address of the source of honoraria
income received which aggregates $200 or
more by exact amount. Give the date and
describe the activity (speech, appearance, or
article) generating such honoraria payment.
For payments which are received by an
individual through a speaker's bureau, list the
actual payer as the source. Do not include
payments in lieu of honoraria reported on Part
I.
Include all income from non-investment
sources including fees, commissions, salaries,
income from personal services, retirement
income, pension payments, royalty payments,
or similar non-investment income. For
example, if you earned $450 teaching at a law
school, your entry should read . . . “John
Jones Law School, Rockville, MD; Salary
$450”. If you earned $75 for teaching in one
law school and $250 from teaching at another
school, report only the $250 amount. If you
have a property interest or asset (including a
retirement plan) related to the item of income,
list that item on Part IIIA or B as appropriate.
PART II: EARNED AND
NON-INVESTMENT INCOME
If you or your spouse is self-employed in a
business or profession, for example as a
practicing attorney who earned $50,000 during
the year, to report that income you would
show: For you: “self-employed practicing
attorney”; Bethesda, MD; salary; and
“$50,000” in the appropriate columns. For your
spouse: “self-employed practice psychologistspouse”;
Bethesda, MD; salary; and “over
$1,000” or you may leave the last column
blank. If you or your spouse is not selfemployed,
then the name of the employer
would be listed in the first column. Note: If this
is your First Report, you are also required to
complete Part X.

Exclude income from employment by the
United States Government including military
pay from Federal Reserve Programs, social
security income, and retirement income from
the United States government.

http://ethics.senate.gov/downloads/pdffiles/fdform10.pdf

Unless im reading it wrong, its saying to report all income earned during the course of the year.

10 million dollars, you pompous windbag.

He posts things like....

The conversation is not about what is earned income but how a tea bagger, that was foreclosed upon and lost her house, managed to live on $5,800.00 dollars in a year?

So much for fiscal responsibility.

She will be great in Washington. Just steal all the money you need.

I would bet wilbur any amount of money that he would like to wager. A gentleman's bet and the loser has to pay up.

Unfortunately there is no Merc to hold the money.
