PLEASE! Whatever you do, do NOT give him the equivalent of the "boy named Sue." My parents "made up" my first name - what a frigging pain! All my life long when a clerk (or whoever) sees my name, they say "That's unusual." I explain how it came about - pieces of male relative's name from both sides and they respond "Oh, I like that! It's cute." /Lance cringes at the word "cute."/
NO - what it is, is unusual and almost always mispronounced.
NO - what it is, is spelled close to a much more common name and almost always misspelled.
I took Lance as my user name because that's what my Dad wanted and it has become more popular. Mom would not allow such a salacious (dirty) name in 1950. Nowadays, it isn't "dirty" at all.
Dad didn't want a Jr., and I'm glad he didn't. Do a Grandfather or a beloved Uncle. What IS cool is that I have same initials as my Dad w/o being a Jr. WATCH those nicknames - DAD didn't want "Dick" to be my nick, thank you! He was a Robert and really didn't like "Bob," since his name came from the Welsh of an ancestor name "Roberts."
Also, say the FULL name out loud. Names are best when they have a rythym.... not a particular rythym, mind you, but whatever it is, it needs rythym. And that is acheivable by same count of syllables for first and last names with a different count in the middle. OR 1-2-3 = James Joseph Windemere. Samuel Jackson Windermere = not so good (and leads to "Sammy")
Jackson as first name? NOT on your LIFE - Jackie for a High School boy is almost too painful to type!
That all said,
CONGRATULATIONS and easy delivery, no matter what you chose. (And sometimes kids will tell you their names, just as cats and dogs do, so maybe see what happens in a day or two.)
