Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University said: "The GPI continues its pioneering work in drawing the world’s attention to the massive resources we are squandering in violence and conflict. The lives and money wasted in wars, incarcerations, weapons systems, weapons trade, and more, could be directed to ending poverty, promoting education, and protecting the environment. The GPI will not only draw attention to these crucial issues, but help us understand them and to invest productively in a more peaceful world."[16] [image]local://upfiles/255589/F48C6B77A9654E6D81C25AE2AB86F8EF.jpg[/image] World map of the Global Peace Index 2008. Countries appearing more green are ranked as more peaceful, countries appearing more red are ranked as less peaceful. In the index itself, it is interesting to see where both Iraq and Afghanistan feature and the most viable country to emigrate to But as to the Global Peace Index, is it of any use, can it show us the error of our ways and there the key to a better future for all ?
