is it a comment on the current state of Women & Men when the non-fiction racks prominently display a book with the uplifting title of (wait for it) "Why Men Love Bitches"?

probably not--and the last book-burning i attended left me w/nothing but badly-singed false eyelashes.

but it really duz call for some serious head-scratching: how did we get there?

leaving aside for the moment that "bitch" is a purely subjective concept
( ( ( & how, pray tell, does your family physician test for bitchiness? or is that a question for the dauntless OBGYN? ("We'd better do your Bitch Smear next spring, Ms. Woodcutting...") perhaps social scientists have devised an algorithm: height of stiletto heel times ruthlessness divided by shrillness of voice... ) ) )
well, who says men love them?

news flash! men don't even like bitches.

so isn't the proposition that one-half of the world's population loves them just a wee bit of a stretch? i'm not stopping! NOBODY loves them: bois, grrls, subs, doms, switches, incredibly attractive crossdressers in their mid40s...

what's to love about a self-centred, opinionated, manipulative person? of any gender? hands up! anyone? anyone? anyone?

then there's the word itself. you'd have to be the Unabomber to miss the desensitization of bitch over the last decade or three. by now everybody and his Female Dog have been made somebody's bitch at some point or other & like a lot of people on this site, i myself thrill merely at the thought of being called one

it's a safe assumption the BITCHES that MEN supposedly LOVE are of that particularized feminine genus, once wholly undesirable, now unaccountably sought after...

it's like putting out a book called "Why Men Love Bag Ladies" or "Why Men Love Meth Addicts" or "Why Men Love Paper Cuts" oh, it sounds hot. it sounds like the title of a book/reality series/self-help seminar that you could make scads of dough from (if you weren't terribly scrupulous)

but that doesn't make it true.

common sense tells any sane man, woman, child, submissive, dominant or other that bitchy behaviour is self-defeating and undesirable.

as Darryl Hall once said, take a look around. most bitches probably die alone & probably deserve to. i'm a man, er, at least some of the time, so i oughta know.

men love a lot of things.

bitches ain't one.

I don't get it.
Why would you use so many words to deliver your opinion, while confusing us with random other statements?

Nobody says they love them long term, and probably the correct term is lust. But if guys weren't sniffing after them and leaving the nice girls to go home alone, the books wouldn't even have been dreamed up.

Me also.

Swank would be a VAST improvement to the bitchers we have running around here lately.

You know, the saddest thing about that particular book is that the type of women being referred to as a "Bitch" are  women who exhibit these qualities:Emotional and physical strength, self confidence, independence, non-neediness, and is someone who lives her own life on her own terms.   What I find equally tragic is that the culture at large tries to dissuade fostering these qualities as social norms. A woman who doesn't reflect the "traditional" socialisation  of deference to males, nurturing, dependent, and weak is differentiated form "normal females  by the term, "Bitch".
Unfortunate.

I do not know how true that holds anymore....

I think "powerful" women used to be called "bitch" for it, but I do not know how prevalent that is today. I think there was a time that women in power deserved that moniker, because they did not know how to be powerful women, so they came off as "bitches". There are men in charge that do not know how to handle power well, and they get called names, too.

More and more women have better leadership models of how to be a woman in charge without being a "bitch", and that the two are not synonymous.

I think it also depends on where one is located. My city is somewhat provincial, and there are a lot of less than rational attitudes to overcome, yet only 20 miles away is one of the cutting edge cities where strong women in leadership roles are not only the norm, they're expected.
I can only hope that we as a species evolves to the point relatively soon where we realise that sexism hurts everyone, men as well as women.

I actually agree with this and find it to be incredibly common and prevalent. I find the word "bitch" to be a compliment personally and OP believe me when I tell you I think 60% is an underexaggeration personally.
