Flordia finally legalize's gay adoption's after a nearly 30 year ban. It's about time.Flordia is one of the last few state's in the country to have this foolish law. This is not just a victory for the gay right's movement. This is a victory for human right's in general.Clearly, gay people are just as capable of providing a safe, loving home for children.Flordia has many kid's in it's foster care system. To deny children the chance to be in a loving home, because of someone's sexual orientation is inhumane. This law was challeneged in the Flordia court's and they have struck the law down. Now,the decision could be appealed and then it goes to the Flordia State Supreme Court.Either way, this is a move in the right direction. The Flordia state court's deserve credit for striking this ill advised law down. The current Governor of Flordia,Charlie Crist, deserve's credit as well for ending this inhumane practice as well.Of course, the biggot's arent happy, but what else is new. This is about doing what's right. It's about time.

OK, off topic, but I just can't take it anymore.... for the love of whatever people find Holy.... PLEASE  learn to use apostrophes correctly! And learning how to spell Florida, when you are posting about it, wouldn't hurt either.

And don't tell me Crist did it because it was what he believed in.

It's an election year, he's pandering for votes. It wasn't even being discussed last year in earnest.

(And this is about the only post I may ever make in politics. This is a skerry forum for a widdle kitty like me....)

That's the way democracy is supposed to work - pols take stands because it's what their constituencies want.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

Umm, no. That's the way its been working with the abysmal soup we find ourselves in. While true for Congressman who are supposed to represent your interests, Senators are supposed to do what they think is right, and the legislative branch is supposed to provide leadership. Governor's are also supposed to provide leadership. But I agree with the original post- it probably did take some guts on Crist's part.

BK- please don't be afraid of this forum. It's the only one where there isn't an established pecking order and CM labels are irrelevant. It can also be one of the most informative- you can get a sense of the range of viewpoints out there.

Cheers,

Sam

I think he did it because 2 courts have now ruled the law is unconstitutional.

How is that pandering for votes?

edited to the add...... The original lawsuit was filed in 2008 and the first ruling was in Novemeber 2008.  I am  not sure how that qualifies as not even on the radar last year.

edited again because I pulled up the wrong dates the first time

He can still try to take credit.  He's a politician.

I'm trying to figure out what you think Crist had to with it.

His only connection here is abiding by the court's ruling.

Appeals court finds Florida ban on gay adoption unconstitutional

On Wednesday, an appeals court found Florida’s ban on adoptions by gay men and woman as unconstitutional.

The state’s governor, Charlie Crist, along with Florida’s child welfare chief announced after the ruling that they will immediately stop enforcing the ban, initially made law in 1977.
