siouxie -> tattoos / lock and key (4/23/2006 8:41:57 PM)

hi all,

i wasn't sure quite where to post this, being a newbie.  my partner and i are very keen on getting a tattoo each, the whys and wherefores of which i shan't go into here, and yes, i do know a tattoo is permanent!

anyhow, my question is this: we would like a design of a lock / padlock on me, and a key on her, however it is proving difficult to find suitable designs / pictures / illustrations.  if anyone knows of any such designs that they would be willing to share with us, please do let us know.  we are looking for fairly decorative, but not overly fanciful images, and ideally the kay should match the lock.  the actual tattoo won't be all that big - no more than a couple of inches square.

any help greatly appreciated.  many thanks

siouxie

I've heard that some Tattoo artists are actually quite talented artsists. :p

lol! i'm well aware of that, but we're really at the beginning stages.  we're not looking for a set design, but one that we can try to modify, or ask a tattoo artist to modify for us, to be unique.

basicly as karboncopy said.. look arond at your local shops. go in talk to the artists there. tell them the idea  you have, see what they can come up with.. it will in all honestly be your best bet. they knwo what there doing and how to make the immages fit best for were you want them... Also dont settle on the first shop you walk into, if you have the option check with as many as you can, if your not comfortable dont like the looks  in one move on to some were else.

Yea, go to a tattoo artist.

Tell him what you want.

Sit down to consultation, and work on designs.

they're quite creative too.

Being a body art enthusiast ... most tattoo artists actually appreciate the opportunity to do thier own work. If you go into the shop, just tell them what you want and they'll (most of them) sit down with you and draw it out ... then adjust to your specs.
You usually get thier best work that way [:D]

Here's one I like
http://www.redrobinantiques.com/images/Victorian_Chased_Bracelet_and_Elaborate_Heart_Sterling_Lock.jpg
or something like this http://langantiques.com/jpg_150/150-1-27.jpg
and I also like old lock and keys, so I always search for victorian lock or key on googlle images and I find some beauties.

Like the othe mod enthusiast said, tattoo artists do like the chance to do someting of their own, but they also appreciate it when you come in with an idea and something to work with, there are way too many people who enter a tattoo shop with no idea what they want.  If you find a pic somewhat close to what you want, and bring it with you, then explain how you want to change it, or if you want ti done in a particular style, then you will have a much better tattoo experience.  You may also just want to find a lock you like, in a particular shape, then have that same shape put in the fat part of the key (the part without the teeth), or matching initials, the list goes on, but the most important thing is getting something you will both love and cherish that is yours.
