If you were to write a how-to post for the intros section, what tips would you include? I glanced through the first couple of pages and came up with these:

---

Keep it reasonably brief

This is an introduction, not an essay-one or two paragraphs is a good length. You want enough to grab the attention but not so much that the readers feel overwhelmed.

Keep it positive
Happy people are attractive-feel good about yourself and the fact that you're posting, and others will too. Don't complain about fakes and scammers, be excited about all the awesome people you'll get to chat to!

Keep it open
Let us know what you're looking for (if you're looking for anything, that is), but don't go into too much detail. If you start listing all the specifics of the exact scenario you're looking to find you can put people off-this isn't intended as a hook-up forum, so those nitty-gritty bits are best left for your profile (or even later in conversation if you want to keep a sense of mystery...). A brief description is good, and if people want to know more about what you want they can check your profile.

Tell us about yourself, not just your sex life
Do you have an interesting hobby? Do you have a really freaky favourite food? Are you secretly addicted to the music of Motley Crue *and* High School Musical at the same time, and worried about what that says about your mental state? If you let us know some fun things about you then you show that you're a rounded person rather than just a life support system for a fetish.

Explicit pictures are a No-No.
As are requests that users humiliate or degrade you for your tiny ears, or demands for all submissive people to kneel at your feet and lick nutella from between your toes or whatever (ok, so I made those two up but you'd be amazed at what we get asked sometimes...). The forum posters haven't consented to any kind of relationship with you, so let's all try and keep the private parts between consenting adults, ok?

Keep it FUNNY!
If you can make people laugh then the forums are a pretty easy crowd. Can you tell us a joke? Can you think of a funny title for your ad (which will also make it stand out on the page)? Is there a funny story behind your username or your avatar? Your post will be many people's first impression of you, and lots of them will remember a funny intro post-or at least I do, anyway.

---

Anything I've missed? Anything you disagree with? Any jokes that could be funnier? Any typos? Too many smileys? Not enough smileys? TOO MANY QUESTION MARKS? What do you think?

<--extra one just in case

I don't think I ever actually posted an intro.

However, yes to all of the above AND be your authentic self.
Be your authentic self even if what you want out of play is getting to be someone else for awhile.

There is nothing wrong with having specific wants, but [almost] no one likes being treated like an object right off the bat ... too many intros objectify their prospective partners on all sides of the kneel.

One quote is okay.  Maybe two.  More than that and I'm learning about who you quoted, not you.

Class, not only in the pictures.  Using foul language is a huge turnoff for me, as are pictures of you flipping a bird.

Don't post personal ads.  That's what your profile is for.  The forums are for discussion, so show us that you're here to learn, have knowledge to impart (without being a pompous know-it-all), and have something of value to contribute.

Good guide.

Also, I found VC's very own Introductory Post. (Predictably, the earliest one in that section.)
Look at how humble she is!

I'd say: add "humble" to your list of things.
That said, perhaps, I should use your guide to write an introduction.

Give you guys something to make fun of...

Edit: Grammar.

Lol-that's not me being humble, that's me being a physics student

I'm going to let this thread run for a while, and then I'll collate everyone's suggestions so they're all formatted the same.

I would add what I have started calling "The Golden Rule of the Internet".  In other words, if you wouldn't say it to a group of perfect strangers when you're face to face, don't say it to random strangers on the internet, and you'll be golden.  Just because we happen to be kinky people, doesn't mean that we are necessarily interested in your kinks or your belief that just by showing up here, we care about someone's desire to fuck.  (Close to what you listed above, but with an extra twist.)

Hint:  Give people a general idea of your location.  A fine way of doing this is in your subject line.  This may actually prevent folks contacting you from all over the globe if you're only interested in local people.

Gentle Reminder:  Please keep in mind that you are not on AFF or Alt.  If you come across like you think you are on one of those sites, rather than with folks who really are interested in BDSM, you're not going to have as many positive experiences as you would like.

No Matter What:  Don't use your introduction as a way to express yourself negatively.  Under all costs, skip complaints about fakes, scammers, or come across as completely desperate.  NONE of these are attractive.  Positive people get positive results.
