ResidentSadist -> -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/27/2010 5:06:29 PM)

I turned on the TV to catch the weather because we have a very heavy storm that came out of nowhere.  Low and behold, the weatherman is talking about the circulation in the upper and mid atmosphere and that it is the beginnings of a tornado.  Then he zooms in on the map to show the center and it and its right over my house!  He names my street and the intersection at the corner, even mentions the Tasty Freeze down the road.

Everhope is working 7 minutes away so I called her to warn her.  She tried shushing me off the phone because she is at work . . . LOL.  I told her there was a tornado warning.

The weatherman just announced a water spout formed down at the beach.  . . . what a day.  Think I will put on some heavy clothes and get the flashlights out.   If you guys never hear from me again, you'll know what happened.  LOL

Yes I posted on the net . . .  LOL.  I logged in and turned TV on at same time.  I often watch a movie and check the forums during commercial breaks.

If I get "sucked up" tonight, I hope it isn't by a tornado!  Thanks for invite, I'll look for bad weather headed your way to hitch a ride next time.

so what is the punchline?

"I don't think we are in Kansas anymore" was Dorthy's punch line.  I would have stolen that and made some jokes about seeing flying monkeys (video link is that GreedyTop tribute).

I'm thinking that heavy ass red cage might have served better than a mattress.  Everhope and I could camp in there for a while.

Besides, it's like a small apartment strong with bars and a lid to keep the house from falling on me.  I could have continued posting on the net, made some calls, watched TV.  :)

   There is plenty of room and the cage will prolly' be the only thing left standing anyway.

Thank you.  As luck will have it, the water spout was the only touch down and I could barely hear the roar in the distance.  Apparently a thunderstorm bumped into the sea breeze and created a tornadic storm.  Normally the sea breeze has the inverse effect and quiets storms down.  The weathermen went wild talking about how unusual it was.  I guess that's why it seemed to come out of nowhere.

So all is well and the harsh portion of the storm passed and went out to sea.  I had lit candles in case the power failed (it didn't), I am typing by the cozy candle light now.  I just came in from the pool where I had a nice evening swim in the rain.

The answer to the question, can one be addicted to the forums has now been given a definitive answer of yes. Good grief, posting instead of taking shelter. You're hooked RS, no hope for you.

Shelter, hell . . . I went outside so I could hear if one was coming my way.  Tornadoes are hard to see at night.  So as I stood by the pool, near a lake, the thought entered my mind that was a lot of water.  I wondered how much was gonna end up in my house if a a tornado came near?

GreedyTop -> RE: -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/27/2010 11:04:23 PM)

Glad you're ok, Kalon *hugs*

And thanks for that link.. I've missed that ;)

sunshinemiss -> RE: -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/27/2010 11:14:56 PM)

Generally there is a lot of warning with tornadoes.  The waiting can be unbearable.  I totally get why you're online RS.  We had a couple of typhoons here recently, and I was online, too.  Hours before they passed, and nothing much to do. Unless you are in its path, then generally just wind damage.

If he was really in it, he would be knocked over by the wind.

best,
sunshine

I'm right there in the tub with ya Shar!  I lived too many years in tornado alley....I hated spring!  Once in Illinois, the air was green, it was still, the conditions were perfect for one to form, sure 'nuf, one did, the sirens went off, I grabbed the dog, the cat and the phone and headed for the tub, when I passed by the windows in the living room, people were coming OUTSIDE to see it!  WTF????  I"ve had close calls there, in Tulsa and in Austin.  Give me snowstorms any day!

Rosalyn, I left the Phoenix area a bit over a year ago, and I hafta say, I did love the weather.....I did get caught in 3 monsoons when returning from Oregon once.....talk about terrfied!  I couldn't see the hoof of my bright red truck it was raining so hard!  I literally had to peel my fingers off the steering wheel when it was done!  And those dust storms are amazing!  We used to watch them come in on the cameras located around downtown.......it was like a huge wall just rolling thru the valley.

Whilst I got to know my last date I also heard there are tornadoes in his area at times, according to him his house would be safe enough but he told me he has an underground bunker, too....when I visited him I had a look at that bunker....I couldn't make my mind up what would frighten me more, the tornado or to get in there as my concern would be that down there could be a heck of a lot of those diamond back rattle snakes....I think I would have preferred to stay in the house after seeing that shelter [&:]

The day after I left OK in march they had one there, according to the news...

Now I used to think relaxed about my future destination new zealand....well....that changed now with them having twice an earthquake recently [8|] (though not in Sir M's area...phew...)

That being said, now they even reported that this stuff happened over here way before my time and is expected to happen again...

http://news.uk.msn.com/environment/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=154691470

so I keep my fingers crossed that ain't gonna happen before I am gone....as quite frankly the houses I am living in over here are already falling appart without an earthquake [&:] due to lack of maintenance from their owners [>:]

Before I left Germany we had one there on the scale of 5.4....with next to no damage....I really don't want to imagine what 5.4 could cause over here [&:]

But good to hear that you are still ok...just don't forget in latest 3 years time you might have to take a tornado to another direction to pop over when I am living in New Zealand [:D]

MistressLavinia -> RE: -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/28/2010 1:06:19 PM)

What did you do send it here? I'm in New York and it just came over the radio "Tornado watch through Nassau and Suffolk County until 6pm, so Mr RS, did you command it here?

ShaharThorne -> RE: -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/28/2010 1:48:41 PM)

I commanded it there because I dida reverse phone lookup on the phone number and it was coming from Nassau county.  Stupid scammers...

Hillwilliam -> RE: -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/28/2010 2:00:04 PM)

As you dont live in a mobile home, you had nothing to worry about.

(which came first, the mobile home or the tornado)

ShaharThorne -> RE: -=Tornado forming over my house?=- (9/28/2010 2:16:22 PM)

I do live in a mobile home so I am screwed...I need to Mom that we need to get a bunker build.

[:)]  Typhoon, cyclone, hurricane . . .  We have a lot of hurricanes here in Florida too.  They will keep you indoors for sure.  I once set up a high quality web cam out the window for a live feed video chat room during a hurricane.

When everhope arrived, she had an injured knee and I took her to the hospital.  We sat for hours.  I ran out to the car, forced my way into the hospital patient’s proxy net using a predictable password. Then logged into collarme and posted this thread: -=Her scraped knees weren’t what you think.  Logging in from ER waiting room=-
