I expect this bit of partisan political video will cause a certain amount of frothing at the mouth. It was designed to do that, I think, and it is going to be very powerful anyway.

And the commercial that served as the inspiration and template

Lucy, it's a bit like the jokes about Northerners that I wasn't getting, on tonight's season premiere of Top Gear.

Trust me. I might have to send Ron a warning not to view this thread, lest his avatar start spewing algebra.

This is the typical GOP appeal to the fucking lizard portion of the brain, not a single higher thought,  no platform.  Same kind of horse shit the late Lee Atwater is hopefully suffering for in some other plane of existence.

I agree with Lucy...nothing to froth about, just a typical one-sided, not overly accurate bit of campaigning, no different than the rest really, and certainly not "powerful".

Hmmm. It's almost as if the non US citizen posters are completely ignorant of the historical subtext, ain't it?

Watch the second link again. That was the theme of Reagan's 1984 re-election campaign. The outcome of that election looked like this. It was considered a very effective ad.

Not at all ignorant of it...I just don't find the "mourning" ad to be all that effective is all...the original is more so, possibly because its a positive ad, and negative campaigning bugs me

All a reasonably intelligent person has to do is use their memory to recall which administration had control of the government for the previous 8 years BEFORE President Obama stepped in to try to fix the mess.

Remember President Bush asking for the $700 Billion Dollar Bailout?  What's the matter, you can't remember that far back? Here, let me remind you...http://a.abcnews.com/Politics/Vote2008/story?id=5879591&page=1

I was doing fine before the Bush Administration, but I lost $450K in the stock market between April and August of 2003. My mom lost $250K, and my daughter's grandparents lost 90% of their retirement savings, which was about $210K.

At least I still have MY memory, even if I am getting older. And I also remember being a bill collector in 1986 in So Cal, when there was a bubble burst, and people lost everything...and again in 1989.

Fine, Arpig, but you are both a Canadian, and a self-described socialist. This is a call to the Reagan Democrats who made that landslide happen, invoking nostalgia for a more optimistic time. You invoke a different response among the committed liberals when you bring up the Fritz and Tits show (not my problem, RML. Google it).

Of course it's negative. They are running against the status quo, and the words "hope" and "change" aren't in their toolkit right now.

Unless you want to spell out your contributions, and the gains you saw leading up to the crash, Rosalyn, that isn't much of an argument.

Hmm, I wonder if they mean the time of the New Deal and liberal control of government during the 1950's when the living standards of middle America zoomed to epic heights.

Surely they aren't speaking of the era of conservative control 1980-2006 when living standards steadily declined. No one in their right mind would want to return to such a time!

Lets compare what we, as Americans, should mourn FOR REAL:

That lame attempt of an ad, by Republicans. Or the one on this link. Notice the contents of the aircraft....

For the WHOLE of the Bush Administration, not often, were we, the American people, allowed to see the coffins coming in from Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places, of our service members who paid the ultimate price (since Bush enacted a Press Ban). You know how many times Former President Bush went to meet the planes landing at Dover AFB, during the entire time he was in office? NONE. At least President Obama has gone once in public (and I'm sure a few more in secret).

Republicans want to debate the defination of 'mourning'? Make sure you show proper respect!

I am still trying to figure out why it is Bush's fault she put money in the stock market and then lost it. Did he hold a gun to her head and make her give him her money?

Just out of morbid curiosity, did you and your family just wake up on that August morning and scream "where is my money"?

As much as I dislike Bush you cannot fault him for the lack of oversight on your part of your own financial situation.

I have to explain them to my pet too:)
grins, I get the point, and the effect they are going for, I just cant get excited over the assigning of blame when none has been accepted or apologised for.
At least accept responsibility for their own role in the clusterfuck.

Thank God we didn`t let the bushtards touch our SS money.

Thank God thank God thank God .

It,like 17 plus trillion dollars of our money would have been sucked down the rat hole along with those 11 million jobs we lost.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,436435,00.html

What are the goptarts proposing in their "pledge"......?

Allowing wallstreet access to our social security money.

Think about that in November,folks.

We don't have 17 trillion dollars in national net worth, I don't think anyone does, we have something like that IN DEBT though.  Supposedly we have so much debt that literally all of the money in the world can't pay it off... EVER.

Naturally, this concerns me a great deal, but boy is it the best way to chase off the collectors.  It's brilliant really, be so far in debt that realistically trying to collect it is tantamount to insanity.

No, I think insanity would be more like being upset about things that you "think" and "suppose" without bothering to find out if they are true.

Oh that is hysterical.  If there is anything I would never describe the Republicans as a party, it would be caring.
