Termyn8or -> RE: Someone explain to me how anyone can vote in opposition to this (9/30/2010 1:36:05 AM)

I would never vote for it. Did anyone notice the letter B in front of the word after the $ number ? That's about bank bailout stakes. Those are billions of dollars. Now just how many people worked on that ? A thousand no, 10,000 would be closer. It is for now, jusr for an example.

Who is trying to fucking tell me that they have suffered on average $7.4 million in damages per ? Add to that the fact that most of them worked for some agency of the governemt, and probably have the best healthcare money can buy.

How bad was it ? If you think about it, pretty bed, with pieces of buildings laying around, glass, pipes, wires, structural steel etc. and your job is to find bodies. OK it was bad, really bad but then for this. The general public was kept away from that area, and only selected professionals go in. Where were the safety precautions ? Didn't they know what they were getting into ?

If so, why not ? Did they not know their trade or was there something that "somebody" forgot to tell them ? If they were not made fully aware of what was in that environment, this may be a way to get people to sign off by giving them money and healthcare so they don't sue. This way they get to direct where it goes.

Convince me of that and I might be tempted to vote for it, but it should be obvious that it's just too much money. I ain't taking that first pitch, if we're just going to throw billiions around, how about a few more for vets ? They went into an environment where there was flying lead, burning things and boom booms. Don't see alot of them sporting seven figures lately doya ? You could just give a million each to 74,000 people.

No, even if it's really "hush money", I think it's too much. I would still vote no.

Ah! Another bash those "bad Republicans" thread. We'll be seeing more of these in the next month!
Anyone heard any good Obama jokes lately?
"Obama was giving a talk in someone's back yard in Iowa and people began leaving when....."

Why do you care Popeye?

You're an Independent, or so you keep telling us.

Now does that sound anything like you?

Because it sure doesn't to me.

I don't have anything to add to the discussion.  I just wanted to encourage lucy to post more, 'cause I have deep abiding respect for her avatar.

You know what would be fun, Popeye? If one of them picks up the new theme from Kerry, Biden, and Pres. Obama, and starts a thread about the lazy, irresponsible, and inexcusable Democrat voters who aren't coming out to keep them in power.

You don't think these politicians have forgotten who works for who, do you?

Myself, I wouldn't know anything about what either of you are are talking about.

I'm officially declaring myself a non-partisan Independent.

Sooo Mr Rodgers the definition of hero is only valid if one disaster is bigger than another. Those that suffered in other disasters are not worthy then. You see the problem of fairness involved?

In Iraq you must remember how the smoke from the burning wells was polluting the air our soldiers were breathing and it took heroic action and personal danger to save our soldiers from health problems...so why deny them their reward for sacrifice?

The responders to the first Trade Center disaster were no less heroic then the second responders and received no more or less help on their non related future illnesses.

The responders to the world trade center are government employees no more supported or less then most other responders that every day put their lives in danger…Why should not all then have free health insurance for the rest of their lives… Where do you stop?

The health and safety sacrifices every day by all manner of responders far outnumber those at the 9/11 disaster… They are no less heroic and do not receive lifetime free healthcare…Where do you stop?

Now you also can’t seem to read my posts before responding. If you had you would have understood where I stand on care for those ill from the effects of the 9/11 disaster…Go back and check one more time I’m not going to repeat myself.

You also seem to be forgetting the millions of people exposed to the dust of the collapse … it was not just fire and police and construction workers…again where do you stop? What is fair?

This is an ill conceived bill at best and a political ploy of the worse kind.

No my friend this is a political ploy pure and simple. I am all for those who have suffered injury and loss because of the 9/11 receiving medical care but only if a direct result of the attack. I’ll bet the City of New York has workman’s compensation and disability insurance that is helping as well as private donations for the families.

As far as i remember, many were denied those claims.

If that is true tazzygirl then this is a cause I could get behind to rectify. But giving free lifetime healthcare to those whose health was not affected is not something I think we should be doing.

Now if they wanted to give free lifetime health care to all emergency workers I’m all for it.

Hell I’m for free healthcare period…but it must be fair to all

Yet I bet you were one of those people who had the plastic flags hanging in your car window to show your patriotism after 9/11.

But I guess $1.99 was a little lighter on the wallet than standing up for the people who sacrificed on your behalf.

I mean really, your argument is the worst kind of hypocrisy.

We were all hailing how heroic these people were nine years ago but now you want to shrug and say "so what, they were just doing their jobs".

rulemylife,

I will point out that old Major Butchie Boy has done his bit.

kdsub -> RE: Someone explain to me how anyone can vote in opposition to this (9/30/2010 9:41:15 AM)

Just doing a search I found there is a 625 to 712 million settlement for those emergency responders that are ill from the 9/11 disaster. So it looks like their needs may be addressed.

Point it out a bit more clearly Ron, because I don't know what you mean.

kdsub is a vet, so he's done a skidgen more than hang a plastic flag in the day, and as vets some of us have been just as fucked as anyone else just doing their jobs.

kdsub -> RE: Someone explain to me how anyone can vote in opposition to this (9/30/2010 9:48:47 AM)

Go ahead and just ignore what I really said... You are a good man at heart rule but you have a hard time seeing past your political mindset. It would be great if all emergency workers had free healthcare but to limit it to just 9/11 workers is political… I just can’t understand why you can’t at least understand the possibility that these men and women are being used.

Yeah, that's where I thought you were going.

And it's actually an interesting analogy.  Bush was waving his flag and telling us how proud he was of the troops he sent to die in Iraq while simultaneously cutting veterans benefits.

Now we have our patriotic Republicans who told us about the "heroes of 9/11" wanting to deny them compensation for their illnesses.

So what you are saying?  Because you or KD got fucked we should fuck these people?

mnottertail -> RE: Someone explain to me how anyone can vote in opposition to this (9/30/2010 10:06:11 AM)

no, what are you saying, you are as ignorant as any neo-con?  Don't pull that so what are you saying shit on me.......

I say what I say, and don't need anyone to revise and extend, or interpret my remarks to their own ends.

kdsub -> RE: Someone explain to me how anyone can vote in opposition to this (9/30/2010 10:06:14 AM)

Why are you associating me with Republicans...do you think everyone who disagrees with you is an evil minded skinflint of a republican...lol

I hate to pop your bubble but if you ask Sanity which party I represent it will be liberal spend my money democrat.

Damn I wish people would listen and stop using preconceived ideas of my party allegiance.

I may be right or wrong but it is my thinking not a party platform.

Being used?

You mean while they are dying of respiratory ailments from exposure to toxic dust?

This should never have had anything to do with politics except for the Republicans turning it into a political issue.

This should have been a straightforward bill to compensate those who were put in an extraordinary situation that exposed them to extraordinary risks.

Especially considering that many were volunteers that came from all over the country.

kdsub -> RE: Someone explain to me how anyone can vote in opposition to this (9/30/2010 10:15:08 AM)

Rule I said this..."I am all for those who have suffered injury and loss because of the 9/11 receiving medical care but only if a direct result of the attack." in post 12

I said this..."free health care to all who worked on the clean up even if their illness was not related to the disaster could be considered a political ploy or wasteful" in post 5

So where in the hell do you come off saying I don't give a shit about these people... read damnit.

Butch
