Wondering if there are many veggies around and if so what are you doing for vegetarian week? I am looking for ideas

Hillwilliam -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/29/2010 7:00:41 PM)

I plan to eat one

MissAnimus -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 1:01:24 AM)

I didn't know there was such a thing. Every week is vegetarian week in my kitchen [:D]

areallivehuman -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 2:16:10 AM)

Here's an idea, remove from your diet all meat, poultry, fish; all dairy products including cheese, butter, eggs; all sugar including honey, maple syrup and fruit. Or were you just looking for some recipes?
I never heard of Vegetarian Week either. But then I'm a bit outside the norm.

LaTigresse -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 4:19:48 AM)

There is a difference between vegetarian, vegan, and whatever you ridiculously wrote.

Twoshoes -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 5:55:23 AM)

Well...

What was I supposed to be doing differently?
I'm not sure. [:)]

????

What does that have to do with vegetarian?

I never heard of veggie week.  I plan on eating as I normally do.

Mr. Man's daughter is vegan.  I experiment with recipes for her sometimes but he & I are meat eaters.  Twice a year he goes vegetarian (but not vegan) for a month at a time.

Eggs are dairy?

To the OP, here are a few websites for Veggie cooking...I have a dear friend who bascially doesn't eat anything with a face, but I am constantly awed by her meals.  I don't foresee my husband giving up his steaks or Tri Tip, but the alternatives are endless.

They are often considered "dairy" and shelved in the dairy section at grocery stores. I never really understood this, myself.

pissdoll -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 7:48:58 AM)

eggs are not dairy, but being an animal byproduct as milk is it is easy for people just to lump them in together.

i sort of like physicians committee for responsible medicine's website.
anyone wanting to go vegan can use their 21 day vegan kick-start for a lot of helpful tips and a huge amount of support on message boards.

i'm not vegan, but i removed meat and all other animal products except honey from my house a long time ago. if i want them, i have to go seek them out. which i rarely do. i prefer a plant based diet.

Nothing I guess except too much sugar is generally not good for you, and I've met more than a few overweight vegetarians.

I did some of that 20+ years ago. I was more wondering if anyone was doing anything beyond the normal. And new recipes are always welcomed of course.

LaT your posts alway put a little wee smile on my face. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

I am veggie for 20 + years now. But my OH and child are not so I cook meat for them all the time. That is why I would like to do something special for veggie week. Have now planned a wonderful dinner for tomorrow night for some friends and neighbours and will forget to mention that it is vegetarian until everone has cleared their plates :-) They are used of getting served meat so it will be interesting to see if there are comments during the meal or if any one notices.

Good plan. [:D]

The trick would be in the spices then.
Like potatoes with the same spices that you'd use on grilled chicken seem to work well.

Sadly, I think they'll notice any strong flavoured vegetables.

StrictnSaucy -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 5:08:43 PM)

They are acustomed to lots of veggie side dishes so are used of that but I never serve meat eaters "cheatin meat" like Quorn etc and thats what they are getting tomorrow. I am sure they will forgive me ;-)

Hillwilliam -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 7:11:11 PM)

WTF is "quorn"?

Twoshoes -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 7:14:52 PM)

I completely forgot about fake meat. LOL!

They might still notice, though. Having eaten both at one time or another, the texture is always different.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 7:19:04 PM)

Mmmmm...a nice prime rib. Medium rare. Fresh horseradish. Creamy mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus.

servantforuse -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 7:22:06 PM)

I don't plan on partisipating.. I just had a very nice rib eye steak on the grill followed by some wine and a fuente..

Hillwilliam -> RE: Vegetarian Week (9/30/2010 7:31:39 PM)

Mankind didnt spend 4.6 billion years clawing its way to the top of the food chain to eat tofu mush.
