Thats the diagnoses of Steven Thrasher in the Village Voice "About 12:01 on the afternoon of January 20, 2009, the white American mind began to unravel." He describes the batshit crazy of the Tea Party, and how the coming generation will see a battle between the "Grays and the Browns"- that is, the aging white Boomers and the young ascending minorities, who will reach majority status within a few decades. What is most interesting, is that as the Grays lose power by retiring and dying off, it will be the Browns who end up paying for their Medicare and Social Security- or choosing to let them starve in a rat infested retirement home.

Yeah. Sorry, but I got about this far, It had been a pretty good run up to that point. The brains of white folks had been humming along cogently for near on 400 years on this continent, with little sign that any serious trouble was brewing. White people, after all, had managed to invent a spiffy new form of self-government so that all white men (and, eventually, women) could have a say in how white people were taxed and governed. White minds had also nearly universally occupied just about every branch of that government and, for more than two centuries, had kept sole possession of the leadership of its executive branch (whose parsonage, after all, is called the White House). It kinda diminishes the asshole's credibility. Maybe I'll give it a read when I want something to snicker at.

The Fifteenth Amendment (Amendment XV) to the United States Constitution prohibits each government in the United States from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's "race, color, or previous condition of servitude" (i.e., slavery). It was ratified on February 3, 1870. The Nineteenth Amendment (Amendment XIX) to the United States Constitution prohibits each state and the federal government from denying any citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920. "spiffy new form of self-government so that all white men (and, eventually, women) could have a say in how white people were taxed and governed" Odd how the writer leaves out the 15th amendment.

The author of this article does exactly what he is trying to condemn. Obama would not be in office without the support of a majority of white people.

You talking 1840 and 1920 ? What was the country born yesterday ? Remember the year ? This is almost 100 years after. Before that, those amendments didn't exist. So the words are probably quite accurate, although some peoples' virgin minds just need to run away. Tell ya what, Don't like avocados ? Here's an idea, do not eat them. I am speaking of those years... 1870 and 1920, to be exact. Black men gained the right to vote long before white women... or any woman. So how does he comment... "spiffy new form of self-government so that all white men (and, eventually, women) could have a say in how white people were taxed and governed" ... hold water when black men had the right to have a say before any woman did?

Would mentioning jim crow, lynching black leaders/activists, poll taxes and literacy tests be snarky? It`s a dark subject for sure and not for the squeamish or unsophisticated. I don`t think the author`s purpose was to make people feel comfortable.

You may have missed my point. Though I don't blame ya, I didn't make it well....was 6am. Just a bit pissed, if it was [any 'race' but 'white'] in that article it'd be racist as hell, but as it is it's apparently fine.
