Gauge -> Hostel and Wolf's Creek (4/24/2006 12:40:01 PM)

I rented Hostel and Wolf's Creek over the weekend. My oldest is into horror flicks and gore so I thought I would give them a look. They were terrible. Neither movie had a redeeming quality about it. They were dull and unimaginative. After the Saw series I had hoped that Hostel and Wolf's Creek would be on par with that... boy was I mistaken. I don't mind brutal violence in a movie but I like to be entertained and have some semblance of a good story behind what is going on. Neither film captured my interest. I didn't care about the characters nor did I care what was happening to them.

Horror films (to me anyway) should carry the viewer into the realm of terror kicking and screaming on the way. I have found a few films like that but not many. I love when a horror film plays with your head and the terror is more psychological than visual... The Ring springs to mind as an example. With violent films, I know it is special effects that make the gore possible and therefore any movie that relies on that isn't really scary to me. But give me one that sucks you deep into the story and you are drawn into identifying with the characters and you care what happens... THAT is a scary film because I cannot dismiss it as special effects.

I am wondering... anyone know of great horror films to see? Leave out the Jason and the Freddie movies or anything similar... they do not scare me. I want to turn off the movie after it is done and go... Jesus... that scared the shit out of me!

sorry I haven't been scared in years .. oh gawds do I know what your talking about I saw the Rob Zombie flicks ... and I was like

Oh kill them and get it over with

I think they should come out with a new Koontz or King flick that reels in in on caring and routeing for the poor soul as they go thru the troubles...

Misty says,
If Your doing a fetish while watching a
Horror movie,
then all is well!

It tends to get better as the Fetish

Gauge ......

For the most part I agree, although I found ''Wolf Creek'' to be a tad bit more interesting - Didn't think the Aussies had many nuts like that! LOL!

Anyways.... Hostel was absolutely terrible! And I'm truly surprised that Tarrentino would allow his name to be attached.

Sounds like the trailers were better than the movies.
Thanks for the reviews and saving me some money.
