My town NEVER loses power.   What I mean is we have 2 elderly high rises and a flood wall- with pumps.  Those pumps keep the river out of the city.  So when there is an outage- they skew it to some other town- that is less critical.

Anyhow- I was besides myself.  I listened to a radio show I had downloaded- and then went for a long walk.   I looked at door bells to see who had power.  Many door bells have a light- and unless they are battery operated- you can tell who has power that way.

Having lived in this region since 1988-  I did not place a high value on power outages- as they are rare in this zip code.

I noticed people were outside-  and some males walked around. A few people even looked afraid.

I phoned in the outage as I did not want to assume everyone else would.

Oh-- my cat never blinked.  LOL.  SHe never noticed the outage. LOL

YES!

We never lost power.  Somehow we are not connected to that circular grid.

This town seldom loses power.

Well, for my exciting day yesterday, we didn't have snow. I think I should start a thread about it.

that is not unusual.

just because your town has drainage does not mean it does not require pumps.

Chicago had massive flooding some years ago when its pumps failed.

some houses even have sump pumps.

We lose power in my town at least once a year for a few hours.  Sometimes 2 or 3 times a year in bad weather.  And last year the weather was so bad, it took down the power lines leaving us without power for 4 days.  We had it good.  Down the road from us power was out for 2 weeks.  Count yourself lucky only being out of power for 1 hr.

Out here we can pretty much count on losing power every time it gets above 103 F. Which is frequently, during the summer. The rest of the year, it is rare.

Funny you mention that now. Been a while, but just had a couple recently. Five hours overnight and then in the following morning. In fact when it went out in the morning I watched, maybe something was arcing but it was on and off almost like morse code. Almost as if they wanted to screw up everything I have that has a chip in it.

Then later at work, it went out for about ten minutes the same day. From what I hear the power co I use buys most of the juice from PASNY, and you are probably on the same grid. Maybe there's an upgrade going on or something.

This sounds like my neighbourhood. If we have a storm and do not lose power it is unusual. And yes, I think the longest we've been with out was after a bad ice storm one January, several years ago. We were also lucky, it was only 4 days for us but weeks for some areas nearby. Lots of power lines down all over the place.

This is why we have a generator and alternate heat.

It's rare for the power to go out for more than a few days. But it isn't that much of a hardship. We take showers at friend's houses and go out for meals. We have a woodstove and camp in front of it. The worst was the time the dog decided to play musical beds, trying out all the sleeping bags in turn, while we were in them!

I keep gallons of water in the house, I have a grill with a burner for tea. And we refill the toilet tank with water from the water tank or the hot water heater if we didn't fill the tub in advance.

If my power is out, my kids stay at friends houses. If theirs are out, I get the group of kids camping here.
