I gotta agree with Karbon.  You are what you say you are.  If there's no difference to you, then there's no difference.

JassWolf -> RE: ~slave vs sub~ (4/24/2006 7:21:41 PM)

"Submissive" describes the personality and values of one who serves; when someone talks of being a "slave" often they add a phrase or two to describe how they are determined to get better or perfect their service.

I wonder if it would be useful to say that submission is where s/he is "coming from," and slavery is what s/he aspires to.

Just a thought.

Did you get that from the "How to be a Fetishist" website?

THANK YOU  to all whom  replied: IT has been facinating to read the diversity of replies to this  question and i think just by reading the this thread ive gained a different prospective  and enjoyed everyones comments,days past and days present,the humor and views of all slaves,subs,masters and mistresses.Also its nice to meet you all and have a glimps of your views on this subject.JUST goes to show we are all in this lifestyle together and   are wonderfully different, but yet  in  many ways the same. thanks again~lordbaltizar~

TedEbear -> RE: ~slave vs sub~ (4/27/2006 4:21:44 PM)

The diferrence is simple as dogs and cats. Slaves are more like dogs, Slaves are mor like cats. Probably why most men, doms, seem to always seek slaves just as men have a statistical preferrence for dogs. Subs are more like cats. Read it some where but they went into a more indepth analogy.

Tikkiee -> RE: ~slave vs sub~ (4/27/2006 4:40:07 PM)

I have very definite IDEAS and OPINIONS of what a submissive is and what a slave is. However, they are my opinions only; I don't try to force a person to become what I think they should be.
If a person wants to identify as a slave; that is their choice. If they want to identify as a submissive; that is their choice also.
It matters not what I think they are.

EbonyFtshGoddess -> RE: ~slave vs sub~ (4/27/2006 4:46:25 PM)

in my opinion the difference between a slave and a sub is this:

a submissive has choices.

a slave's last choice was made when he decides to serve me.

my limits become theirs,  my choices become theirs. they lose right to a safeword and endure more micromanagement than the couple of subs i have.

i demand more from a slave than i do with a sub.

i feel subs can be owned.. but i feel that slaves are truly owned.

Reasonable -> RE: ~slave vs sub~ (4/27/2006 5:17:12 PM)

A sub sets her limits.
A slave has MY limits.

i`d enjoy hearing  what people think the distinction is between slave  vs, sub .To me it has always been a slave has no  rights and gives her or himself completely. A sub on the other hand sets limts and boundrys and is  not  in sceen  24/7 and has rights .Also do you think a sub can be owned?I do  however realize no one is a true slave since laws prevent it in this country.i am courious of what all have to say on this ,i am sure  it has been disscussed before here but it is a worthwhile topic.~lord~baltizar~

i believe both slaves and subs can be "owned", simply in different ways.  two different slaves can/are "owned" in different ways, for that matter.  i've yet to train, play with or own any two submissively-bent persons, whether slave or sub, the same way.  every relationship/interaction has been different.  same for any and all vanilla interactions with others.  i expect both vanilla and bdsm will continue this way.

in my opinion, the difference between a slave and a submissive is not time or limits but in emotional and psychological state.  a slave hands over more of their identity to their chosen person (or people).

as a submissive, i give over my will, my control, and my trust to the dominant i choose.  when in the dominant role to a submissive, i am given these things.

i am not a slave as i prefer not to give over any of what i consider to be the definer of "me" inside to anyone, but i've recieved bits of that from slaves in varying amounts in the past.

an intangible of self and the level of which it is exchanged is what defines sub versus slave, to me.

I used to agree with your distinctions between the two words.  I now find myself feeling more and more that it doesn't matter.

BDSM people are like snowflakes.  Each is beautifully and utterly unique.  Yet we find ourselves pressuring ourselves and others to apply one of a very small selection of labels to ourselves and then, because of the selected label we find others telling us how we should behave, who we should be. "If you don't (whatever) then you're not a REAL, or TRUE (whatever.)

I'm Harry.  What I am is a "me."  I'm a REAL, TRUE me.  Of all the "me's" in this world, I do believe I'm the absolute "me-est" although I could be wrong on that.  My BDSM is my BDSM and it's absolutely REAL.  Or at least it is to me.

To register on collarme, even though I STILL CAN'T SEND MAIL, I had to apply one of the selected labels to myself.  I chose submissive because I'm a pain slut, I love to serve and I'm unowned.  If and when I ever become owned, I'll adopt whatever lable my Owner chooses to give me, if any, be it "slave," "boy," "piggie" or "Lord High Everything Else."

But I'll still be me.  I'll just be Her "me."

Reasonable -> RE: ~slave vs sub~ (4/27/2006 10:47:03 PM)

This is true,I have found slaves to be made-not born. But it takes a certain talent in a Top to bring that out..plant the seeds and bring them to harvest. It's not something you can just order up, like a Macdonald's hamburger.

The two distinctions I made were the end result and main difference I have seen come from a long,drawn out conditioning process. One man's sub is another man's slave,and vica versa. The important thing is that the mesh is solid,and the goals and expectations clear.

Sorry.
I just imagined that on the portable advertisement sign at a roadside bar. Maybe mud or jello somewhere on it too.

i don't see why this is such a big deal to everyone!  i really don't care what the difference is....i am what i am and if you need a label for that so be it!  i do think that a subbie can be 24/7, and can be owned, if that is what they want to do!  i don't get so carried away with the defintions of a lifestyle...just be what you want to be and surrender what you want to surrender, and take what you want to take....who cares! as long as everyone is happy!!
