Plastic ties (aka cable/zip ties) weigh nothing, cost pennies, cant normally be removed without cutting, come in a variety of lengths, colours and widths. Perfect for quick application, I always start putting them on with my thumb deliberately in the way to act as a stop and leave a little space for fine adjustment. Law enforcement supply stores often sell double looped ones having a similar result to traditional handcuffs.

The downside to them is that they can be too easy to over tighten and cheaper ones can be scratchy sometimes. It is possible to purchase cutters specifically designed for cuttting the ties without damaging the cables/limbs they are wrapped around.

My slave girl and I love Darby Cuffs.  These are the old style English police handcuffs.  They have rounded edges and are very smooth.  I have had her in these cuffs for seven days with no problems.  I have had her hands over her head for an hour with no problems.  We have both wrist and ankle cuffs.  The wrist cuffs come in standard and adjustable.  I have to use the adjustable on her because she has small wrists and can slip out of the standard cuffs.  They take a special round key and are very secure.

The only disadvantage is they have become very expensive in the last year because the dollar is so weak, and the cuffs are maunfactured in England and then shipped here where they are assembled with chains or solid bars to attach them.

The comfort of velcro over foam is probably the most comfortable, but the hands need to me restrained away from each other since they do not lock. I have experimented with ways to lock them but nothing worked.

I have broken some leather cuffs, even the wide ones, and finding ones that use the whole piece to buckle is difficult. In other words most of them out there have a wide leather strap for comfort, but only fasten with a smaller strap over the top.

I did have a pair that had the wide buckles, but they were too thin. Brokem. Bad Termy.

I have recently gotten the ones mentioned, stainless steel lined leather, or is that leather lined stainless steel ? They lock too. They are by far the best ones I've ever had. Once bent to the shape of the wrist, you can not turn in them. They lock, but if the hands are restrained apart, a simple cotter pin could be used to secuire them. I wore them for quite a while one night and they left no marks. (I hate longsleeve shirts).

Nice chrome plating, plenty of rivets. Oh yeah. These things are the cat's ass. I got them for $135 for the whole set of four from XR. I'll have to see if they have a collar made the same way. I think they do.

I like to use a relatively thick but pliant latigo leather with buffed edges, attached with chain, rope, or innertubes.  Silk is excellent, very comfortable, but the knots are hard to undo, so you must have a VERY sharp implement (not your average pair of scissors) handy for emergencies.  Silk stockings and properly-tied nylon stockings work well too.  For long-term play, but probably not multi-day wear, I really like suspension cuffs for the wrists.  The bars give a sub something to hold onto, and can be very reassuring.

Whatever you decide to use, just make sure you have a way to get out of it quickly if necessary.  Safety is paramount!

Perhaps you will tell us what you choose and how it works for you--?

I love any kind of restraint but prefer leather. I use wide leather cuffs that I had made quite often, thought I do use rope or steel shackles. My wife/sub often does chores in steel shackles that I made. I made them with this in mind, so I padded the inside just a bit and covered them in leather. I also made the chain length adjustable, so depending on how her attitude has been, the chain can be lengthened/shortened to affect her movement.[;)]

Casey47 -> RE: whats your personal prefferance in restraints (1/7/2007 1:43:08 PM)

my peronal preference is leather, the wide heavy leather ones for the ankles and wrists along with my heavy leather collar with o ring on it. when my hair was longer, i wore 0 rings braided in three places for total restraint, one on each side behind ear and one at the nape of the neck.[:D]

MomentsofHistory -> RE: whats your personal prefferance in restraints (1/21/2007 11:08:03 PM)

I'm all for the leather restraints, prefferably lined for longer periods of use. All of my leather restraints take a small padlock, I also enjoy medical restraints, as they are truly effective, and are designed for extended periods of wear.

MistressSassy66 -> RE: whats your personal prefferance in restraints (1/22/2007 12:13:18 PM)

My favorites are the medical restraints...I have a set that are soft, they velcro and then have the hooks to ensure they cant get out.I also have a leather set(the tan w/white.. you see them on tv or in movies where someone is tied to a medical bed) they are again stiff but soft enough to wear for long periods of time.
I really like the type that have velcro. They are a Nylon type material and and can be worn for hours as long as they arent too tight.
Next I like chains for ankles if you keep them loose it shouldnt be too bad,but if marks occur wear socks that cover them.
I like leather also but it can be stiff and not always comfy.
Rope is another great way to bind someones ankles or hands, again as long as its somewhat loose(I use the two finger rule, like with a dog and the collar size) they wont leave marks.
I guess I dont care what I use as long as the submissive is bound in some manner.

Personal preference in restraints? Here's a better question- what restraints do I not like?

Gotta be silk scarves. Dunno why, but they somehow just turn me off. Other'n that, I'm a total bondage bunny. You can tell by my ears. Hang on, where'd that bunny headband go...

Tomvegas -> RE: whats your personal preference in restraints (1/22/2007 11:33:03 PM)

Locking leather cuffs, well made by a skiled craftsman.....are great for extended play.....the leather lined metal ones are good also, but good quality ones are hard to find at a reasonable price.....

Shaper -> RE: whats your personal preference in restraints (1/24/2007 6:57:23 PM)

I will have to put in a vote for lined leather cuffs.  I had some lined with fur that were insanely comfortable, and while they could get very warm after a time they didn't hurt and never left marks (which is an important detail for me).

Well these http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/jsearch/product.jsp?pn=100522299 are sold in Home Depot in the tool section for 3.99 each, they come with an eyebolt and a carabiner that you can either use or not use. This is the medium but there are also small and large. The large in particular seemed well suited for binding legs and arms together. I bought 4 or the mediums and as long as you keep the hands bound apart, they work really well. They aren't the most aesthetic thing in the world, but they are effective - and think about this. Say you are flying somewhere to meet a friend you'd like to play with but are afraid to bring your toys on the plane. You hit town, stop buy Home Depot, pick some of these up plus whatever else you wanted and you are in business. When you are done, either give them to your friend or ship them back to yourself.
