Part of the 10/10 program to reduce carbon emissions ...

No Pressure

Hurry ... the people who made it keep yanking it off the internet ...

In that great British tradition, I dont have a clue whether this was pro or con the 10:10 initiative! I took it as making fun of the zealotry of the Greenies, but the comments seem to think that it was pro!

Looks like British satire in the grand tradition of Monty Python to me.   I could be bloody wrong though.

But, but, but... what are the gases from the explosions going to do to the ozone???

hertz -> RE: Those fun loving Greens! (10/2/2010 3:53:10 AM)

Here's what well-known English twat James Delingpole has to say about it...

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100056586/eco-fascism-jumps-the-shark-massive-epic-fail/

If I am not sure, I tend to judge whether or not something is worthy by how much Delingpole hates it. He hates this, so it gets a thumbs up from me.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Those fun loving Greens! (10/2/2010 8:09:05 AM)

I guess it was really supposed to be promoting 10:10. The whole idea is so ridiculously misconceived Richard Curtis must be an idiot. Delingpole nails it, no suprise since Hertz doesnt like him.

So, your opinion is not based on your own thoughts, but simply in reactionary terms?

What I thought was what if a "non-lefty" issue was portrayed in the same manner, what would the reaction be?

Let's say that there are people who believe that the increase in government spending reduces individual liberty and will lead to the enslavement of society.

They come up with a mini-movie, in which business leaders, school teachers and others ask their employees and students "Who supports increased government spending?", and then kills anyone who agrees with the thought in a bloody and spectacular way?

The screams of protest and derision would be front-page news, I think.

Lots of talk about the inhumanity, and the revealing of the inherent moral bankruptcy of the movement.

Not always. But yes, sometimes I do take a position based on how much annoyance it causes others. In this case, I couldn't work out what the hell they were trying to say.

EDIT: I don't understand why anyone would think a video which shows 'environmentalists' blowing up those who 'don't care' could ever be seen as throwing a positive light on the 10:10 campaign. This video reads more like an anti-green video, in that it shows environmentalists as bloodthirsty zealots. I just don't get it.

I dunno...

With a chainsaw, maybe? I'd probably laugh. I mean, it is OK to laugh, still, isn't it? I know it's free and all, but that doesn't make it Socialism. Some stuff just is, you know, free...

Possibly.

the "rebuttal" on the green ad was incorrect. OBL said that in Jan 2010, not Oct 2010.

hertz,

I wasn't trying to belittle, but seriously interested.

We are all guilty of confirmation bias in our thinking, and how we interpret what we see.

Obviously, I see it on both sides of the political spectrum, but it seems to me (confirmation bias, perhaps), that something that would cause a moral outrage from the "left" if done by the "right" gets nary a whimper of attention when something this egregious is done for the advancement of a "lefty" meme.

I think we need a new forum on CM where we can explore and discuss the confirmation bias fetish and all those who are confirmation biased can gather and share.

"And somehow, throughout this entire process, not one of the hundreds of people involved seemed to have questioned the wisdom of an advertising message advocating the violent, sudden death of people who disagree with it."  (Iowa hawk Mad men)

If you are not willing to fall in with Groupthink than you should be eleminated.

Has anyone seen Winston Smith lately?

You need to Google Philip Tetlock, and his book "Expert Political Judgment", for an explanation of "hedgehogs and foxes" and the effects of ideological thinking.

Another interesting read: Can psychology save the world?
