In an interview with the NY Post for his latest book, he drops a real gem. "(President Obama is) like a fun-free 60's"
A conversation with P.J. O�Rourke

As some might guess from this posting, I like P.J.'s work. Who is your favorite humorous political/social commentator, and what have they said or written that makes you laugh out loud because it is so true?

Twain, Rogers, Mencken, and Thompson tributes are welcome, but the living and active are preferred.

O' Rourke used to be very funny, but I think he's rather gone off the boil since the mid '90s.

Are you familiar with Mark Thomas on your side of the pond? An ideologue (and occasionally tiresomely didactic) stand up, he's also published a book As Used On The Famous Nelson Mandela, about Britain's involvement in the arms trade. Very funny given the subject matter.

I'm not sure if Charlie Brooker counts, but when he gets onto ranting about politics (rather one of the many other things he despises), it's never less than amusing. The fact that he's probably the funniest newspaper columnist alive doesn't hurt with that.

If you admire P J, you might find Fred Reed (fredoneverything.com) interesting. Of late, he's more bitter than funny--it's as though he's lost all patience, as has P J. But his earlier works are all available on that site and he does have that razor-keen way of deflating the pompballoons.

That seems to be the arc for many, if not most. Hunter Thompson and George Carlin kept churning stuff out long after they should have called it a body of work.
