There's a debate going on involving the number of emails women on this site receive. So- in an average week, how many new people do you contact?

The difficulty with this poll is that apart from my friends on this side whom I have email contact with most of the messages I receive (especially the troll like ones) are from people who have never made a forum post so they wont be here to answer

I contact all of them and tell them how lucky they are that I do.

Exactly. I did a quick check. Of the last ten people that I reported for spam (breakdown, 1 fem sub, 1 fem Domme, 1 male Dom, and 7 sub males) not a single one had any forum posts. Those are just the ones that I've reported in the last couple of days. If you're wondering how I did that, I tracked them through My sent mail. I have a message that I send to every person that I report as spam. Their message is taken out of My received mail, but the message that I sent them to tell them that I'm reporting them for spam remains. I don't report anybody from the forums, from My state of residence, or people from the last location that I lived. (For some reason, I still get a lot of contacts from there.) ETA - I actually didn't answer the poll. If you're talking about first contacts, I may do that one time a week because I liked something that someone said on the forums that I've never emailed before. I frequently trade emails with a number of women on the site, but it's a rare occasion that I initiate an email to someone that I've never talked to before. Non forum participants, I never initiate contact.

I got a post this morning from some weirdo in Europe asking me if I'd ever seen a catfight. I decided to mess with his head and told him I hoped the SPCA finds out he's doing this and arrests him. But he's never been on the boards. So people like him won't answer, and those who are here to answer surely have learned something by now about how to approach others.

I clicked someones profile here because I really liked a post they made and I was curious to see who was posting it. She happened to be female, and knowing I was going to show up in their Who's viewing me area, I dropped a quick respectful note explaining why I peeked and welcomed her to the forums. It was deleted unread, which kind of stung, but I can remember how swamped my mail box was when I was new here, so it's understandable.

Periodically I block my profile. People who know me from here- know me. A new person wont. Even on a regular dating site I was on- men will look at other men. What it means- I have no idea. Maybe they want to see what for guys are scoring- what they write so as to get a date?? A few might be curious- but- I think some are simply assessing the competition.

If someone local shows up that I think I might have something in common with, I drop them an email. Otherwise, it's just friends that I send stuff to. Considering that I live out in the sticks, I dont send many unsolicited emails.

FR Sam, you seem to be having trouble comprehending the difference between a forum user and a spammer. Do you think any of us would still use the site if the people from the forums behaved like spammers too? The people who will read your poll are the people we're here for, not the irritants that cause people to hide their profiles...

Wanders, LadyP You're both absolutely correct. The idea that the people that would respond to this poll being representative of the site as a whole is flawed. Nevertheless, if you're trying to formulate a hypothesis- having some data in a flawed framework- when the flaws are known- is often a better starting place than a perfect framework with no data. VC I'm clearly not as smart as you. I have to ask questions when I don't know the answer to something- and you're right- I don't know the difference between someone who posts on this forum and a spammer- or even necessarily what you're defining as a spammer. But my query is to find out what the range of number of contacts are from people that do post on the forums, assuming that they are generally reasonable folks. Since I don't know this answer- I thought I'd ask the question. If you already know the answer- care to enlighten us? Sam

That's why the reasoning if flawed, sam. It's isn't reasonable folks that send spam. It's often the folks that look at this as a sex site or folks who really aren't involved with the lifestyle. It comes from users on the collar chat side (personals), rather than the collar me side (forums). There's a huge difference in the mindset between the two. Btw, I use the rough generalization for spam taken directly from the reporting page: [color="#222222" size="3"]Spam This message appears to be a solicitation mailed randomly to numerous usersTo Me, that includes stuff like: Hi Mistress. Would you like to chat? I'm new to the lifestyle and looking for friends to talk about <insert kink here>. Can I pay you for a strap on session? On and on and on.

1 Master I never ever contact others on here because well frankly, I'm not seeking others in any way for anything whatsoever. The only emails I ever send out here are to Master or others who contact me and want to have a conversation.

Lady Pact I don't disagree with you-but it's not the point of the question. And thanks for the spam definition-it's what I was using as a working definition, but the term is probably a bit loaded. I'm just trying to get a baseline for what is a reasonable number for new contacts in a given time period assuming that people that read this forum aren't sending spam. I was extrapolating from my own experience, but I thought some additional data might be helpful. Cheers, Sam

FR I'd expect prettymuch what we've got-men who aren't looking clustered around the zero mark and men who are looking clustered around the top limit (which it would seem you've set too low to get any form of meaningful data). LP's definition of a spammer would do me just fine. (btw, what's with putting the last option as 10-20+? What's the difference between that and 10+? Surely that ought to be two separate categories....)

That's called implementation error on the part of the author who was trying for 10-20 and 20+ as a separate category...Couldn't fix it using edit. However, your assumptions about what people are doing may be inaccurate- it wasn't the question asked. The less than one category for example, could be people that are looking, but have less than 5 new contacts per month. Or they're here for the forums. Either interpretation is valid.
