It all depends on where the munch is being held.
Where I live, there's a monthly munch in the back banquet room of a cheesy Chinese restaurant. Most of the public ones are like that- vanilla setting, casual dress, meet and greet and eat. If the munch is being held where there's a play space, that can be different, but the way things are done here, the play space and the munch space are completely separate. Besides, they charge extra to attend the play night, so they don't want any of us el- cheapos who have only come for the munch to play for free, or even SEE anything remotely invigourating!

OK OP, by now you've a fair idea of what munches are about and that there is some variety of styles. For your first time, if you can find one in a vanilla setting where it's just a meet and greet, that might be less scary/confronting. And there's less issue about 'what to wear' though basic black can take you a long way! Be clean, fresh-smelling, well presented, you want to make a good first impression. I still shudder when recalling the male 'sub' who turned up at his first munch here in stained singlet, shorts, thongs (flip-flop shoes) with greasy hair and reeking of sweat and was everso upset that people didn't want to talk to him! It does take a certain amount of balls just to turn up and actually make it through the door! Just remember everyone there felt like that their first time, they will understand that you are nervous.

Once inside, I would urge you just to chat to ANYONE and listen to what they have to say. As in, don't try to identify the Dommes and home in on them, chat to males/females/D's and s's! You can learn heaps from all. And DON'T expect all the talk to be kink-oriented as it probably won't be. These are real people with real everyday lives and as in any group that meets up, some of the talk will be about those aspects. Just be patient, chit-chat enough to be a part of the conversation but not enough to be hogging it. Don't go with the aim of "finding the One" ... go with the aim of making acquaintances and ultimately friends. If you go with reasonable expectations, you aren't so likely to come away disappointed!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I would love to respond to a few things, but I am currently on the slowest, shittiest computer ever made. It very well could be the first computer ever unveiled at the Worlds Fair. It takes up the entire room I am in and runs on coal. Anyhow, I just wanted to say I appreciate the feedback and you can all expect a mundane update on how the ‘Fisher Price: My Very First Munch’ went within the week.
