So, Miley made a video that has parents freaking out...I don't see the need for panic in this.   No one had a fit when Britney came out with "hit me baby one more time".  Maybe I'm numb to it all and don't see the shocking stuff...but aside from the fact that she is Miley and has an image to uphold, where's the beef?  I must be too old, it takes alot more then dancing and a "freshly fucked" hairdo to cause a reaction.

I wonder what Walt would say?

Oh LOL If you think this one is "controversial" you need to look up "Can't be Tamed" By Miley. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjSG6z_13-Q (I'm sorry I don't know how to hyperlink that.) I LOVE this video and have adopted it as my personal theme song. I went from HATING Hannah Montana to LOVING Miley Cyrus. Thank GODDESS she's not singing that country junk like her useless father. And I had a serious problem with disney promoting a tv show to children that was based on a child LYING to all her friends. I refused to let my pre-teens watch it. Kid slie enough w/o needing a role model that LIES! I like this video because she makes a statement with the lyrics that she is discovering who she is, she won't be changed, she won't be tamed, and anyone who doesn't like it can go blow. Its a young adult announcing who she has chosen to be.

Everyone grows up. Everyone matures. I think that after years of being controlled by her father and Disney its about time she grows up and adopts a personality that is hers, a music style that she likes, and a video style that attracts the new fan base SHE wants.

As far as parents freaking out, I have little respect for the average, terrified, sexually repressed American parent. OMG, oh no, little joey might see a woman with confidence. A woman who honors her blooming sexuality. Trust me, little joey is getting a different message from the nudies stuffed under dad's mattress and the violence he sees on TV. I would much rather my kids see a confident, creative and successful woman. A woman who won't compromise. A woman who won't stand to be pushed around. Not by her father or Disney, or parents who react out of the inate fear that the kids might actually see a healthy dose of the real world.

Amen to that sister.  This breaking out by Miley has been a long time coming if you've paid any kind of attention to her in the recent years.  I couldn't STAND Hannah.  Her music and her show were just a cookie cut out of what Disney propaganda says we should be like.... and boy are they paying for that now!!  ^.^  The most recent releases of Miley Cyrus are....O.O  Good.  I never thought I would say that about her, but omg as she grows up she is in fact finding herself.  And I am a HUGE fan of someone breaking away from the molded life they were "supposed" to lead.

Perhaps I'm just numb to things as well, but I didn't find anything "controversial" about either video.  She wasn't naked, dry fucking, or anything like that....OMG there was a guys hand on her hip.  ~insert sarcastic eyeroll here~  There are definitely a whole lot worse things a kid can see than that.  Is her music for the pre-teen crowd now a days?  Only the parents have a right to say what their kids do and don't watch/listen to.  I might not let say a nine year old watch the video.....but I'm not letting a nine year old watch a whole lot of crap.  They should be outside playing, or learning something, not watching bunk on T.V.

Didn't look contraversial to me   - looked like a kid doing a Beyonce imitation - and rather well, and she did sound more than a little like Lady Gaga.

And i might add, if the record exec.s didn't think she could sell a record with this, she wouldn't have recorded or released it, so while people are disparaging her, they need to save a little of their ire for the record companies.

To me, it looks as if she is trying to get out of the preteen genre and into the oh so more lucrative adult crowd record buyers.   And good luck to her. I hope she makes it. She certainly has worked hard enough for it.

I wonder if the parents up in arms are the same ones who let their kids watch horror movies and play video games objectifying women (in a bad way lol).  For some reason people don't mind violence but get upset about sexuality. I would rather my kids were confident sexually than violent.  and if you say you don't become violent from playing video games, then i would say you don't become sexually active from watching song videos.

Kiwisub, THANK YOU for saying this. I agree that she seems to be trying to move away from the pre-teen set - of which she is no longer a part of, she's not 14 anymore!!!! I think she wants to appeal more to 18-30something-ish age groups. Again, like my rant above, the intelligent and responsible parent combines age appropriate education with some level of paying attention to what videos/shows/activitie their kids are engaged in.

Now my 9 year old um is very smart and mature. She loves Evenesence and Miley and Queen and Aerosmith and alot of stuff that most would think is mature for her age. But she can actually handle it and when she has questions, we discuss things, openly and honestly with no lies between us. THAT's what is so lacking in the relationships between kids and the parents that FREAK out about these kinds of videos. Rather than talking to their kids and being honest, they censor them and try to keep them 5 forever.

Don't think her material is for kids? Duh, dont let kids watch it. But no one should slam her for finding her niche. she's over 16. disney's done with her, she's too old to be a role model or a pedophile's happy dream. Since they're done with her, they have no right to control her future. And she doesn't owe them anything including keeping her future image "disney approved".

just my 2 cents. (plus 3 for inflation)

Lady E.

What would Walt say?

I saw an interview some years ago with Annette Funicello (for those of you who don't remember, she was an original mouseketeer and when she grew out of that made a lot of those 60's beach movies) - Walt Disney was a little concerned about her future and asked her to never show her navel.  She never did.

Different times, for sure.  Miley is an adult now, she may reinvent herself a few times over before she finds the image she truly wants to portray.  She's got talent, the "slutty nymph" image is actually getting a little old I think.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Another Disney kid gone bad..... (10/11/2010 9:01:02 PM)

I used to watch the Mickey Mouse Club...ya, I remember Annette..and Cubby, and the whole gang, lol   Gawd I feel old.

Personally, I didn't see anything wrong with the video, seen far, far worse.   But I agree, Walt would not be thrilled.  Whats ironic, is that her dad is a founding member of the org. that is crying the loudest, I wonder if he knows his daughter is on the chopping block?

I've never been a fan of Miley, but hey, I give her credit for getting noticed!

BurntKitty -> RE: Another Disney kid gone bad..... (10/11/2010 11:45:09 PM)

Never been a fan of hers, nor has my son. I have to say, she's got gorgeous legs.

GreedyTop -> RE: Another Disney kid gone bad..... (10/11/2010 11:59:34 PM)

She does have gorgeous legs, I dont have kids, and the ONLY thing I saw on the video that might make me pause if I DID have children was the blindfold thing.. the sexuality issues (dancing tight up with other girls) wouldnt have caused me problems..

This may be hypocritical of me, but the admittedly brief scenes of her in a blindfold and what hinted at restraints on her wrists might make me (as a hypothetical parent) pause...

kiwisub12 -> RE: Another Disney kid gone bad..... (10/12/2010 1:20:44 AM)

Dang, i completely missed the bondage scene!

Actually, she's 17 (DOB 11/23/92).

When I saw the video and viewed the second in the link provided by LadyEternity, my first thought was 'Britiney part 2'. I understand the "branching out/finding her true image" stuff...I just wonder if it was her choice to go the "slutty nymph" route, or was it the record executives.

She's a fairly talented young woman and I can only hope she has common sense to match.

TheBanshee -> RE: Another Disney kid gone bad..... (10/12/2010 6:41:49 PM)

I stand corrected - I thought Miley had reached her 18th birthday - still, there was nothing terribly wrong with the video.

Your probably right, the people who are managing her career image is probably steering her in the direction she seems to be heading.

PyrotheClown -> RE: Another Disney kid gone bad..... (10/12/2010 7:49:07 PM)

I wonder if the jonas Brothers and miley sirus with develop a smack habit once their disposable celebratory status comes to it's timely end
