Status: offline 		I was reading an article about this the other day....didn't he say at the end: "I'm just interested in the period"?....seems fair enough to me...I mean...I carry a knife a few times a day...when I'm cooking...but it doesn't mean I want to gut someone....

And the other poster is spot on...this sort of politics...is why most people are utterly disillusioned by the democratic process....and being honest....you'd probably form the conclusion that people aren't ready for the responsibilities that come complete with democracy...

Usually but not always. Depends on the company.

Ron...there are blokes over here running round enacting 1066 and that lot didn't even begin to discuss eugenics before embroiling themselves in a free for all....

Really?  This is the kind of horseshit that Dems find so very dangerous?  Here's a page from the airshow I attended about a month ago.  Do these re-enactors harbor dreams of a Nazi nation?

How does doing historical re-enactments compromise anything?  Someone has to play the "bad" guy in these shows.  Does my going to the Akron Airshow where there was a WW II "battle re-enactment" make me a fan of Hitler and the Nazis?  I don't seem to recall reading any statement of his in all that you have here in which he stated ANYTHING along the lines of "it would be better if we could go 'off-script' and win when we are not supposed to" OR "gee...this is the sort of army division and historical model that we should model our own system of government after".  Can you find that for me, Owner?  If you can, then I would consider this to be a more serious affront.

As for the member of his own party who repudiated him?  Sounds like someone who doesn't understand these re-enactments and yet has his own opinion of them...he disagrees.  I freely admit I don't understand Ren Faires and have no interest in researching that time period to the point that those folks do...but for me, that doesn't mean I would not go to them.

Because I don't speak bumpkin, and I don't expect the bar to be lowered to accommodate anyone who does, simply so they can attain elected office. The stature of the office requires more respect than that.  It's the same "shucks, y'all' problem that makes Palin the national joke she is.

Status: offline 		I guess being a larp'er myself gives me a different perspective than some of the left-leaning people. Reenactment is dressing up and playing pretend. When you dress up and play pretend with historical context in mind, somebody has to play the bad guy. Taking him to task for this is literally like saying, "This guy is bad because when we play pretend, he plays the bad guy."

Now while an attack ad that said that would be hilarious, I don't think it should be done.

He probably should have backed off from the hobby if he wanted a career in politics, especially being a teabagger, a group who's been struggling to cast off the 'racist' stereotype.

Oh, and I'm a dedicated ren-faire nerd, so for you out there who are dissin' faire,

Status: offline 		I do alot of re-anactments, Ren Faires, Civil War (I play Union), I attend Scottish Games in Clan Kilt, I also now do Steam Punk. I get this type of negative response every time from those who do not participate. I will point out in one picture there is also a British Soldier. There are many reasons those of us participate, but one of the big reason is that we get to spend time with those who share our interest, nothing politcal.
