What middle class anarchy?

Look, I will tell you what is going to be the cause of the fall of the United States.

1) Congress passes and President Obama signs legislation that drastically restricts the rights of tobacco users in the United States.

2) Millions of tobacco users suffering from nicotine withdrawal march on Washington DC and in a crazed riot overwhelm the security at the capital, white house and the pentagon.

3) Congress and the president are forced to resign and seek political asylum in the UK.

4) Smokers and tobacco users seeking nicotine demand international shipments of tobacco products to the United States to begin immediately or nuclear arms will be used.

5) Non tobacco users in the states try to retake washington which results in the nicotine civil war.

6) Smokers win, a new constitution is written guaranteeing the rights of tobacco users the freedom to use tobacco anywhere and at anytime.

I do not see how Brian and Ilsa story leads to "middle class anarchy"?  Nothing they are involved with can possibly lead to anarchy.

I don't either.

I also don't understand this statement from the article:

"The only problem is, they bought the house near the top of the market in 2005, and now find themselves underwater."

So what?

I have some friends who are also in this position and they are in the same panic mode.

I'm not a real estate expert, but it seems to me that unless you are planning on selling your home in the near future being upside down on the home's value is meaningless.

The mortgage payments remain the same, so all they are paying is what they initially contracted for.

And the home values will eventually recover.

The only real issue with being underwater on a mortgage is you're not building up any equity.

Anarchy is perhaps too strong a term. On the other hand as the story of the robo-signers continues to reveal more layers of fraud and misdeeds on the part of banks strategic defaults will continue to increase.

The spin banks have put on this is disingenuous - the "moral" thing to do is to keep making payments. Clearly they don't follow the morality they want imposed upon others. A "do as I say not as I do" dynamic. Recall that the Mortgage Bankers Association strategically defaulted on its own mortgage earlier this year.

The Comedy Central website has a segment of Jon Stewart covering this. Granted Stewart adds his own spin but he does have the facts right.

Look to the right to find the video.

Obviously the banks favor a double standard. More and more it looks as if they simply want to make up whatever rules suit them and apply a different set of rules to everyone else. This also includes banks not wanting to follow, and not following, the laws.

Which falls in with my other comment.  If you are not planning on selling anytime soon then equity is not an issue.

Like any other long-term investment it will have its ups and downs.

I agree with you, but the article in the original post was not about people in danger of default, if I read it correctly.

Which payment?    The original amount or the increased amount?  A partial payment still puts one into foreclosure.

What increased amount?

From what I read in your link they were trying to advantage of a program to decrease their payments based on their home's decreased value.

There was no danger of foreclosure.

RML,.

many took a teaser rate then it went up.   I do not necessarily mean this happy couple.

And for the record- violence is not something I think will work.   Passive non-conpliance.  Not feeding the beast.   There are millions of "us" and there is a cruise ship full of "them".

Some of Congress might get in, but why on Earth would we grant the Kenyan asylum after the naked contempt he's spent the last two years showing for this country?

The middle class don't do anarchy...they're schooled in the values of education (bound up with the prevailing system) and patriotism.....admittedly you'll have the odd one or two who think outside of the perceived wisdom....but by and large they're part and parcel of the system....

A good point, but there's plenty out there. Would you describe Michael Moorcock, George Orwell or Alduous Huxley as proles? Several of the Russian anarchist philosophers (Bakunin springs to mind, for a start) were a very long way from being serfs, weren't they?

How does one call a meeting of anarchists to order? (something to think about)

Yeah, I understand that Pahunk.

But you are talking ARM's.

There is nothing in the article that suggests this couple had that so I'm still trying to figure out the point here.

Like I said before, it appears they are panicking over their decreased home value and trying to take advantage of a program they don't qualify for.

There is so little detail in your link that we don't really know what is going on.

Empty your Kalashnikov into the ceiling and shout them down?
