Yikes.  Having driven in DC, I can attest to that! Philly - I just kept getting lost in. I might throw Boston on that list, to.

I actually enjoy driving in SF - it's fun!

I'm not surprised Manhattan wasn't listed. You can't get up enough speed to get hurt in an accident, traffic's so congested.

Without peeking at the article....yeah, yeah, I'm recovering from a beating.....I have to say that the drivers in Phoenix, the whole valley, actually, are the absolute worst!!!!!  Especially once the snowbirds get there.....they're these little old ladies in these HUUUUUGE cars...they can't even see over the dashboard!

Of course, Jacksonville is running right up there......I almost got hit in the parking lot about an hour ago, and the drivers here are just plain oblivious!!!!  Color blind, too!  Red lights??? WHAT red lights???

Houston! Houston scared the shit out of me, and I was just a passenger. I'd never drive there.

San Fransico, because of the fog. I was just a kid then, but I remember seeing my dad's white knuckles and worry on his face when he tried to drive through San Fransico's fog.

New Orleans, but only because of all the drivers honking, cursing me and flipping me off. Something was really seriously wrong with all of them, cuz of course it couldn't possibly have been MY driving!

Miami, the worst drivers from the whole hemisphere gather there. Red lights are just a suggestion and I have literally seen a gun pulled on someone for making a slow left turn.

Driving is without a doubt much more congested and nightmarish here in most of California. The Freeways are a hellish nightmare. You could get killed driving the speed limit. Changing lanes is nearly impossible. Turn signals are most often not used and when they are people ignore them thinking it is a mere mistake.

Nonetheless, from my experience San Francisco is close to the worst city to drive in and around all of California. Well actually heading to the beach can be grueling also, depending on the route taken. Oh yes, Orange County, California. Now there is a bumper to bumper Freeway driving nightmare! Where parking on the Freeway is as common as parking in line on every exit. Yes, where driving 5 miles takes 1 hour and lots of patience.

In San Francisco you’ve got various modes of public transportation competing to hurry and get to where-ever it is we all have to bustle off to daily and then back Home in this madness. The fog here has got to be the worse to drive in especially when you are headed down or up one of the numerous hilly San Francisco streets that you have driven way too many times to count but cannot see through the fog so you drive extremely slow only to discover that somewhere during the foggy drive you ended up on a totally different street altogether.

Needless to say miles from your original destination. How’s that for a hearty laugh when you finally arrive at the office, aye! A definite joke of the day when I often get lost on my way to work while the San Francisco foggy morning engulfs my auto and all visibility including every square inch of this city by the bay.

Lest I forget the HUGE monster trucks with multiple 5000 watt fogs lamps that blind you while driving bumper to bumper very slowly down the road in a small BMW sport car, in first gear no less. Grueling indeed.

Reminds me of driving through a mountain pass behind an RV that was meandering down the road with no care at all as to who is creeping behind at 5 miles per hour. Traffic indeed is not one of my favorite things to venture into especially among the fog or during rush hour over the Bay Bridge. It is hurry up and wait and then comes an opening and you’ve got Indy 500 racing just to pass one another. Life in the City as usual for this driver.

Take care!

I agree that Washington DC has to be the worst. I'm pretty familiar with driving in Los Angeles, and I used to think that was the worst. However, a city like Los Angeles mostly grew up after the invention of the automobile, whereas cities like Washington and New York were originally designed for horses and buggies.

Driving through Washington DC is pure hell. I think that city was designed by a madman.

I've been through Houston a few times, as well as New Orleans. They can be a bit of a challenge as well, but to me, the humidity seemed worse than the traffic. Most cities are going to experience some level of congestion, especially during rush hour. I can tolerate to that to some degree, as long as there's some logic to the traffic system and it's reasonably navigable.

Even small cities back East can present some frustration to an out-of-town driver, such as Kingston, NY. I don't think I'll go back there again. Then there are states like NJ where they've apparently made left turns illegal just about everywhere, at least on the major thoroughfares.

I can vouch for San Francisco and LA!
