I've heard and seen the superstition repeated over and over to the point at which I recommend that no one get a tattoo of a name that isn't, at the very least, a blood relative. I may just be superstitious myself though :)

My dad got my mom's name tattooed around his ring finger 10 years after marriage, since he can't wear a ring while at work for safety reasons. They've been married for 36 years in December, and they are the most loving couple I've ever met. They are the epitome of what marriage and happiness should be.
