What immediately comes to mind on viewing is a smart ass hoaxter, anything else given the world as it is post 9/11, I am surprised the jets weren't up. Anyone can create a helium/hydrogen balloon of any design and attach lighting and let the prevailing winds take it where it goes.

Interesting. Didn't China just report a similar experience about a week ago? They shut down an airport for a few hours because of a sighting. I should go do some reading. Maybe the sightings look the same.
