Likely voters in battleground districts see extremists as having a more dominant influence over the Democratic Party than they do over the GOP.

This result comes from The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll, which found that 44 percent of likely voters say the Democratic Party is more dominated by its extreme elements, whereas 37 percent say it’s the Republican Party that is more dominated by extremists.

Not the answer anyone was expecting, but obviously a sign that the Dems have failed in one of their main strategies this election season.

at least by that poll in those battleground states, they failed at it, and it might have some bearing on why it is a battleground state.

but I haven't much use for polls, not this one, not any of them. i have yet to see a true and statistically accurate poll that ain't shoving an agenda and slanted in its methodology.

But liberal opinion leaders reject this argument.

Charles Chamberlain, political director of Democracy for America, a grassroots advocacy group founded by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, urged Democratic leaders not to abandon liberal principles to work with Republicans.

“Ask Americans if they want Democrats to compromise on any specific issue like healthcare reform, Social Security or tax cuts for the wealthy and the real-world answer becomes no,” said Chamberlain. “This is why recent polling shows that by a 2-to-1 margin Americans think the healthcare bill didn't go far enough. This is why over 70 percent of Americans want Congress to keep their hands off Social Security and over 65 percent want the tax cuts for the wealthy to expire. The facts show, when you poll Americans on the issues, they want progress, not compromise.”

Will be interesting to see what the next two years bring, regardless of who is "in power". But to claim, as some do, that the republicans will do this and turn back that, simply because someone believes those things are not popular should look back to the Clinton administration and all that was achieved between him and the republican controlled congress.

That said, Clinton did try to force stuff, and had a knack for negotiating without backing down.
The Kenyan's approach so far has been more grovelling to the Repukes on his knees and pleading and begging. Small wonder he can't get anything done...

I said a couple of years ago that the Dems screwed up royally by electing Pelosi. If they had the common sense to go 'moderate' they would have set themselves up for 15-20 years of running things. Instead, they got greedy. I hope the Republican party can learn from their mistakes if(when) they take control after the Nov elections and not go WHACKO Right Wing on us.

For some reason, though, I doubt it.

Well what do the Demos expect when they let leftist riff raff into their party? They have socialists, marxists, communists, global warmers, UFO people, it's one thing to be "inclusive" but don't you have to police yourself too?
If they knew that say, that members of NAMBLA (The North American Man Boy Love Association) were in their party shouldn't they "take action" about it and expell them? Shouldn't they be denying membership to avowed Communists?
Or, do they say nothing because they figure they'll get a few hundred or thousand more votes in a congressional district?
Look at Delaware! They're running a candidate who is a self-described "Bearded Marxist!" And they say nothing? You mean to tell me that they couldn't find a better candidate than an ivy league trust-funded communist?
Doesn't there have to be a point that they have a "Master-at Arms" or something similar go to these left wing fringe elements and tell them "we don't want your vote and you're not allowed into our party?"
If you were a Union Teamster in Delaware would you vote for some guy who went to Amherst college and has trust funds?
Somehow I just can't see Coons going down to the loading docks and sharing a tuna fish sandwhich and a coke with the drivers and lumpers and talking about "the Eagles" and getting us out of NAFTA.
Fourty years ago in Boston Tip O'Neil *would* go down to the loading docks and he knew many of the Teamsters *by name*; "Hey Sean, how's Anny and the wee ones?" He was "famous" for doing that type of thing, he'd walk around downtown Arlington and talk to people.
Can you imagine what Tip would do if he found out that communists, socialists and marxists were in "his party?"

Pops do you have any regard for the truth or not?.. There is no doubt in my mind that you know you are full of shit when you type "self described Bearded Marxist" .You are full of shit...and that post is par for the course as far attention to detail and truth goes.

Did we Democrats have a tea party and my invitation was lost in the mail?

Popeye, have I mentioned that you've inspired me to become a moderate Independent?

Your calm, rational, non-partisan views have made me see the light.

Well, ok.

Maybe I don't need to go to the extreme of becoming a moderate Independent.

I'll either join NAMBLA or become a Communist.

That way I can stay a Democrat.

slvemike4u -> RE: And the "Party of Extremists" Award goes to... (10/15/2010 3:00:56 PM)

No Pops, what is "too funny" is you taking the tittle of an article he wrote as a 21 y/o college senior and streeeetching that to the point where you refer to him as a "self described Bearded Marxist".That is either too funny or in your case a dammnation of the education system in the Commonwealth of Mass.
I'm leaning torwards a complete failure of the education system....lets hope it wasn't systematic.I would hate to think there are too many as simple as you running around.

I make my living doing polls and I agree 100%, especially the US political ones...shameless partisan campaigning thinly disguised as a survey mostly.

thornhappy -> RE: And the "Party of Extremists" Award goes to... (10/15/2010 9:58:16 PM)

Kind of a limited survey, eh?  It was "...a survey of 10 toss-up congressional districts across the country..."

10 districts?  C'mon.

One way of reading the results of this poll would be to say that America had a Tea-Party, and you were too busy acting like a snippy, partisan, whining little bitch about it.
