VC,

(Precursor:  my apologies to those left out because they're not fans of jazz.)

Seeing as you had the good will, exemplary timing, and good taste not only to "redeem" the scat thread, but to make it well worth reading (if only for the link you supplied), I'll return the favour.  One of your fellow country-persons continues to bring a smile to me face (and tears to my eyes) with her emotional intensity, extraordinary musicianship, and world-class skill as a jazz improviser.  Two words:  Liane Carroll.  Yes, I could have done this in a private message, but I decided to share this publicly 'cause it seems this place could use a break from the barrage of "gimme wank fodder" threads. :-)

For VC and for everyone else's enjoyment too:

Ah! Liane Carrol is utterly fabulous. And she's reputed to be one of the easiest, most pleasant, artists to work with (well, so I hear from a "soundie" who has worked with her).

The album "Slow Down" is just beautiful.

Thanks for the tip;  I'll keep an eye out for Slow Down.  I'd also like to buy the DVD that includes the footage of "Picture In A Frame".  There are a number of clips on YouTube from this DVD and I've downloaded them all.  I happened upon Liane Carroll quite by accident, while searching for a Duke Ellington arrangement of Caravan.  I've been a fan of Carroll ever since and was surprised I'd never heard of her before.  In my opinion, she's one of the world's greatest, living jazz interpreters, certainly on the vocal jazz scene at any rate.

Well... if we're going to talk about "scat", as you rightly demonstrated, we might as well enjoy some "decent" scat.  'Twas my pleasure to provide you a smile.

Elan.
