Reporters Without Borders do an annual survey of Press Freedom, and by implication, create an index representing the protection (or not) of human rights.

I would have been delighted to see my country in the top three. I'd have settled for top ten. But the UK only just made the top 20, along with the US.

Other highlights include Israel at 86 (due to Journalistic anti-Semitism, no doubt), and the extra-territorial USA, at 99.

Full list is here

I have no idea what happened to the 'ss' that should have been there - fat fingers, probably. Anyway, fixed.

Extra-territorial USA. Is that Guantanamo? I'm amazed it scored that high.

There's a fair bit more to 'human rights' than freedom of the press. If anything I'd say press freedom is one of the less important factors.

It's a pretty good indicator - you have to agree that, surely? I mean, look at that list. Isn't it almost identical to the list any of us might write to describe human rights by country?

NB Although clearly I would put Israel further down, maybe just above Zimbabwe...
