There were times when it came together, but on the whole, I found it rather discordant and verging on the unpleasant.

I think I'd rather hear a Salsa version with overtones of Beethoven's 5th, rather than a fusion of the two. It's rather like trying to change the course of a river in full spate, it wastes your time and the river just doesn't care in the end; because it will overwhelm anything you try to do.

Did that make sense?

Wow, I really liked it! It seems to be one of those fusions where ambivalence might be the least common reaction. May be a "Love it!"  or "Hate it!"  sort of thing. Orchestral Marmite?

LOL "Orchestral Marmite"

As I said, the premise of fusing the two has possibilities, but Beethoven's 5th is SO powerful, as I said, rather like a river in flood, and it sweeps away anything before it. The times that the salsa aspects came through, it felt as though I had lost the radio station for a moment, and I was listening to something completely different.

So I think the answer is to make a salsa tune, using elements from the 5th, whilst making something that is complete and whole in and of itself. Less forceful, more melodic...to paraphrase a quote from an old TV show..."It should have great rhythm and you should be able to dance to it!"
