France braced for second week of strikes, blockades...

Pay attn to this folks.  They blocked the oil refiners, and now have rationing.   THIS is what "could" happen in the US- if we are forced to do

"Austeriety".

I doubt it. The French have the balls to riot in the face of armed Police. You people haven't had the backbone to try anything like that for a good twenty or thirty years now.

The French are like that true... and you are correct about the backbone --  but that all changes if the checks stop.

Perhaps, but isn't the whole neocon argument against wellfare spending that it creates a useless underclass of handout hungry vermin who wouldn't say anything even if their kids were being cut up for organ transplants in front of them?

pahunkboy -> RE: France braced for second week of strikes, blockades... (10/25/2010 1:27:28 PM)

Excuse me?

I have no idea what this means.

You talked about the cheques being cut off. Does that not mean the plug being pulled on social security?
(You know, the useless and often racially inferior parasites that the right dismisses always as a burden on society.)

I mean all govt help.

I dont think I ever posted that I wanted cut backs.       If I did- please let me know.

My anger is at the banks.  Not the humans who need to eat.

I have no argument with that. (I'm not a libertarian myself: I leave that to people who can read Ayn Rand without pissing themselves laughing.)
I was just pointing out that the neocon lobby don't see the people who are going to be hit first by austerity measures as any sort of threat, because they're obviously worthless, spineless vermin.

I agree that the neocons gloss over the need.     A main reason why I get so heated is because people will suffer  over this mess.  People who did nothing wrong.

Yet the ones who caused the mess- get rewarded- bonuses-  it is out of control.

Many in my town are on food stamps.   I think it is cruel to let someone go hungry. We have so much in this country.

and Social Security is VERY important issue for me.    touch it and DIE.

Word. I'm glad we can agree on something.

It sure is something to think about.  I think my general area will do fine.  We did during the depression.

Life will be very interesting for our generation.   :-)

Demonstrations are all well and good...but... if they cannot afford it what would you have them do?

Well, I guess that is what Sarkozy is hoping, the revolting peasants will get to the point where they cannot afford to carry on then it is crisis over back to normal and the disputed bill goes through, it was all for nothing the authority has beaten the people.

But the french are an unusual people, will they back down is the question, perhaps they are forcing the elected leader to work for them not the other way around. I can't help but think of the French Revolution here, when they got rid of those who lorded over them, perhaps Sarkozy is overstepping the mark by telling the populace when they can retire, knowing full well he can retire whenever he likes.

It is very wrong for a leader to impose something on the populace that they have no intention of following themselves or by virtue of their position or wealth have no requirement to be like the voters.

I admire the French for their backbone in standing up to authority, armed authority at that, and only wish  other countries were as brave, who knows we might even have a better world if the authoritarians were kept in check.

pahunkboy -> RE: France braced for second week of strikes, blockades... (10/25/2010 6:39:49 PM)

I think the French will win this one.

It could be a bell weather.

The blocking of the fuel supply is an escalation of what we have seen in the recent past.

With out fuel- nothing will function for long.

Hungry people- who have nothing to lose can do alot of damage.

Note that the US incarcerates over 2 million - a high % ,  so the premise of FEMA camps is not far fetched.

There are 6 new "supercamps"...  but even if you take a % of the current population is prison- and expand that-  ....if it takes 3% to have a revolution, and we have 1% in prison now, then 2% capacity is needed in FEMA camps.  See my idea?    In other words we can not let 3%, or that aprox number be rioting- the # which could cause a revolution.

kdsub -> RE: France braced for second week of strikes, blockades... (10/25/2010 6:49:49 PM)

I think you missed my point... I was not talking about the ability to carry on a protest... I was saying perhaps the French government knows, in all practicality, they cannot afford this early retirement. If they can't afford it then all the protests in the world will not change their financial situation.

The French may have to give up some luxuries for survival…and be thankful they don’t live in the US where they would really have to work.

Butch,  then that gets into monetary policy.   The govt is supposed to coin the money, not the banks.

If the US govt coins the money, there would not no federal debt what so ever- and no income tax.   Because the money would be the property of the country, not the private banks.

Do you pay the kitchen in your house for dinner?   Why would you?  You own it   Same premise.

kdsub -> RE: France braced for second week of strikes, blockades... (10/25/2010 9:00:44 PM)

The value of money is directly tied to the value of commodities and services... Otherwise just producing more money would not buy you one more loaf of bread or enable one more day of retirement.
