The keyboard on The Man's laptop has several keys that don't always work. If it's an email to family, he doesn't bother going over it four times until the w finally shows up. For business, I tend to proofread it and put them in. Or substitute a word without a w if it's really cranky.

However, he himself is an engineer. He is not a technical or creative writer. He can rebuild a house or a car. But his writing skills are not very good, which is why I serve as proofreader and editor. Would you rather be with someone who can write or who has other skills? You don't get it all, since none of us have that kind of time to acquire every possible skill.

I'll cop to this one.  I'm most forgiving in chat (where there's no spell check at all), medium range on posts, a bit less for journal entries, and least of all for the actual profile.  It's literally on a sliding scale depending on the potential that the person had to check their work and correct mistakes.  Unfortunately, we have never figured out how to get a spell check program on clip's computer at all, so some of his posts make Me cringe at times, but since I know for a fact that it just isn't possible, I've come to accept it.

Yes, I realize that between My choice of capitals, certain lower case letters, hideous punctuation, and other personal bad habits makes Me look like a complete fool on the issue.  I'll have to live with that one.

I spent several years as a proofreader and editor for a national magazine, so spotting typos, spelling mistakes and other grammatical errors is second nature.

However it has taken me several years to stop it bothering me. Now, I work on the principle that if I can understand the meaning of the communication easily then that is good enough.

It's those godawful "wall o' text" messages that drive me to distraction! I used to have an online pal on another site who could combine half a dozen sentences on different topics without the need for capitalisation, punctuation or correct spelling. By the time I'd figured out what the hell he was on about, he'd sent another seemingly random string of words/letters to overload my busy little brain :)

So no, poor spelling/punctuation/grammar is not a big deal, unless it renders the message indecipherable.

It's "text speak" that sets my teeth on edge and makes those little hairs on the back of my neck stand up and start quivering [:D]

Is writing like this OK? Just wondering? If you can read this than you're then you're fine. :)

I can be a spelling nazi at times. But then I remember the Dom I went with who was dyslexic. He was brilliant at handiwork and figuring out plans in his head. Then he was able to build from what he'd thought of, and there was perfection. I had another friend who had a learning disability and couldn't put a sentence together to save her life, and her spelling was atrocious. But she tried. And spell check doesn't always pick up on every error or punctuation.

Then there are those whose sentence structures make me cringe no matter what. I can't win. I try so very hard to ignore it, but I've learned not to correct it, it seems cruel to me as I don't know them or any learning problems they may have. Then there's the "peice" guy who meant "peace" but still says he knew what he was saying was right. Uhhh, NO.
