Ah, sometimes it's good to be reminded that we're all still human. For some reason (perhaps involving As the Collar Turns), I ended up surfing this forum (Politics and Religion, if you somehow made it here another way) long after I should have gone to sleep. At first I was shocked. We're all members of this community, and some part of me expected, while not agreement, at least civility, even on these boards. The amount of vitriol, of acid and bile and rage...it's exactly like the outside world. Threads here are long. Huge. Epic. And they consist almost entirely of insults being thrown back and forth. It's impressive, I'll give it that. But then I realized, it's not so surprising, and not really upsetting. We're all human. Sure, we share some common interests, even kinks. But all kinds of different people participate here. Polyamourous and monogamous. Straight, gay, and bisexual. Male and female. Dom, sub, switch, slave, and all the different labels we give ourselves. Our community is large enough and accepted enough that we don't have to band together against the "outside" just to survive. We can be people. That's something to be thankful for. And it reminds me that even when we have completely opposing beliefs about politics and religion, some of you will still stand up for my right to live my life as I choose and have this lifestyle and this kink. So I suppose the main point here is thank you. For being people. Even when you're rude, insulting, crass, and just plain stupid. Especially then. You remind me that it's ok to be flawed, to be human, myself.
