OK, I expect this'll get moved to the tester forum - I'd just like some publicity before that happens . . . .

On cmails I write an apostrophe, and it comes out as ' So, it's will appear as i's. I kind of smugly used to think it was everyone else that had this problem but not me - now I realise that, though my cmail looks fine as I send it, the receiver will get that damned ' everywhere. I've got used to copying and pasting a sender's text into Word, then doing a 'find and replace' job to make a message readable. But it's a pain.

Anyone know of a solution, or a quick workaround?

I give credit to TwoShoes for this one, although I've not tried it myself.
Try using Times New Roman font....it seems to kill the funky code.
I've just taken to not using proper punctuation (dont tell anyone please!)

By the way...you don't need a spotlight to shine.

Hi, Peon!

I sent a direct query to the mods last week, and someone else posed this question on the test forum:
http://www.collarchat.com/m_3441147/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#3442013
no luck on either.

''ing annoying!
Perhaps you can tempt the mod gods into replying.

edited to add:
Alas, Times New Roman did nuthin' for me and mine.

OK - I saw that suggestion, but thought that the general conclusion was that it didn't work. I'll give it a try, though.

True. Me, I just drop my trousers and bend down.

Bugger.

It seems that it's not just CM - I've done some googling and found the problem everywhere. Any answer I've seen has been written in Advanced Computerese - the cure's a thousand times worse than the problem.

Strangely, it works for me. But I have a French keyboard (I think) so that makes everything even more complicated.

Also, can you link the thing you found in computerese?

Twoshoes - there were loads of them. I just googled the search terms "'" and "get rid of '" and got pretty much nothing but such sites.

Thinking about it, I could try it out with different fonts. If you're OK with the experiment, I'll cmail you in various fonts to see if any work properly with apostrophes. If one or more does, I'll post the results back here.

One site suggested using the double quote as an apostrophe...that magically the code
would read as a normal apostrophe. You may wish to add that to your test mails.

Roger that, poise.

And I'll take your suggestion, too.

It seems that apostrophes show properly with 'Font Face' showing in the Font Box of a cmail - it's worked with IE8 and Chrome . . .

Anyone else care to try this to verify?

It used to happen so rarely that I couldn't recreate the problem. So, I'm not sure if 2 mails is going to be enough proof. I still read mails after I send them to make sure.

My double quotes show up as double quotes.
Le sigh!

Tried sending mails to myself to check and everything works fine for me. Tried different fonts, tried copy & paste, and result is the same - it works.

I am using Firefox browser.

Using or ' does not seem to matter either - it also works for me.

This horrible glitch has been in my mailbox for what seems like forever. I whined about it in my journal months ago, after contacting Support. My glitch didn't show up in my letter to support. Next, I was told to write to a specific mod...and guess what? My glitch wouldn't show up there either. This was my journal entry:

Edit

Just a gremlin warning...

When I've typed an apostrophe in my letters, finish and send...and then it's read, something happens, lol. An apostrophe becomes: '

        I'll (becomes) I'll
they're (becomes) they're
    cat's (becomes) cat's

I know this is eeeebil, but...I am so GLAD I'm not the only one. If this hits everyone who is not using Firefox, I may never have to explain again...or look stupid by being the only one replacing apostrophes with * or whatever.
