soul2share -> RE: Calling all computer geeks!!! HELP!!!! (10/29/2010 5:32:35 PM)

I've run the suggested programs, all of them indicate no issues with the computer.  I do have all the disks for the programs, so I'll try those suggestions next.

I don't know what to say about the memory.....I just dumped a huge amount of no longer relevant pictures, I probably have less than 50 pics on my computer now.  I don't really save things on my computer, I put them on floppies or CD's.  I guess I'm going to have to take the to somplace that can find whatever's hiding.  I have located a file for MSN Messenger, but when I go into add/remove programs, it's not there.  I found it when I searched for it......how do I remove a program I can't find?

I really appreciate the suggestions and help, thank you all for taking the time!

you dont get an option to remove msn messenger, you could do it I think from cleanup, not sure.

go to the command line

type
tasklist /SVC

find out what all those svchosts are doing, it will show what dlls they are servicing, you also could empty your startup folder, and if you have a great number of faststart icons on the bottom blue toolbar, see what you can get rid of there, those memory eating bastards.

Ron, how do I found out about unused ports?  In my Norton program, it is blocking entry thru unused ports from an IPN that shows a location of Beijing, China.   I have comcast internet, and am using the Ethernet cable.  My cable modem did not have the usb port for a USB cable......and I never had these kind of problems when I used a usb connection to the computer from the cable.

Other than the message above, the only other thing my Norton has detected is tracking cookies....it got rid of them.

again, dump that stupid shit. get rid of it.

go to comodo internet, it is a firewall and virus scanner, and it is free.

The problem is that windoze listens on all sorts of ports for action, anyone who knows about them can get at them.

so fundamentally one can make a counting program.

ip 01 02 03 and then find someone to talk to me.....
port 01 02 03...then I am in the corporate panties............

comodo will let you block all incoming...(I cant think of anything you need incoming for)
