i feel very exposed...somewhat self-conscious (i'm still a very shy person and have difficulty with feeling stared at or clinically examined)...i wouldn't call it embarrassment exactly, but i do feel humbled. and of course i am anticipating the penetration itself, for good or bad.

I agree with this. If anything, it only serves to get one more aroused and filled with the head-rush that is lust, love, suspense, and anticipation.

The attraction isn't the helplessness, but having a secure enough relationship where you can trust someone to bring you intense pleasure and giving that partner the control to do so as he/she pleases. You aren't helpless when you're [literally] secure.... unless you're roleplaying it that way.
