We must all take the validity of internet sites with a grain of salt but with a casual search most show the same percentage of pedophiles in the church as out of it. Otherwise priests are no more likely to be pedophiles then your neighbor.

As I stated previously I think it is the breaking of trust that makes the church stand out not the number of pedophiles in the clergy.

I do however think the church, while not sanctioning pedophiles, has been slow to admit their priests are no better than the general population and decided to hide their behavior. This denial is the real problem with the church.

Okay, I know this is a popular belief, but there ARE married Roman Catholic priests in good standing with Rome.  They are men who have been priests in the Orthodox church or some similar church where they can marry.  Then if they decide to convert to Roman Catholicism they are welcomed into the Roman Catholic religion as priests in good standing and they remain married with their children.  They say mass.  They hear confessions.  They baptize babies.  They do everything a non married priest can do.

This is why I find the Roman Catholic Church's stand on marriage rather hypocritical.  Most of their priests can not marry.  However, a small few are acceptable as married priests.  It doesn't make much sense.

Do you have anything to document this?

As far as I know, having been raised Catholic, the Roman Catholic Church does not recognize Greek Orthodox, Polish Catholic, or any other variation from their "one true church" philosophy.

Arrest in revenge beating of priest

My wife and I were in the car, when we heard this story on the radio. Our immediate reaction was one of solid support for the attacker. Yet, even when our justice system has clearly failed, we cannot turn a completely blind eye on those who take such actions.

If we use the guy who shot a priest three times, was convicted of a gun law violation and sentenced to 18 months of home detention as our model, then I'd say Mr. Lynch should get 100 hours of community service for trespassing.

In cases like this, with extreme mitigating factors, what do you think is the right response from society? Should we turn a completely blind eye with cases that remain unsolved, hand down a symbolic slap on the wrist, or should we have no tolerance at all for violent acts of revenge?

Revenge is mine sayith the Lord."
So, just call it something else.

Yes I can document this.  If you read this article about a newly ordained Roman Catholic priest in Washington state you will discover there are about 100 married Roman Catholic priests in the US in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church.

By the way, I was raised Byzantine Catholic.  The Byzantine Catholic church is not only recognized by the Roman Catholic church, the Pope in Rome picks our bishops and is the head of our church.  The Byzantine Church priests are not permitted to become cardinals is the only limit I ever heard.  Our priests are also not permitted to be married, except under the conditions mentioned in the link.  Funny how people are raised in a religion but not told anything that might seem a bit controversial or might make its member wonder or question some of the rules.

Anyway, the fact that the church will recognize "some" married men as priests while not allowing priests to marry seems a bit odd.

Sorry I did not answer you sooner.  I was without internet that would allow me to get to Collarme for a time this month as Gary has been in the hospital.

I suggest whole heartedly a book called "Race against Evil" Its the story of a man who calls himself "Race" Bannon as in the Johnny Quest body guard. Says he worked for Interpol killing Child Molesters back in the early 80's
