Thanks, everyone, for your comments. The girl and I have talked more on this and things are much clearer now...in a good way.

Good to hear DesertRat *s*

Just a note on Doweries and Bride Prices.

A dowery was originally offered because of a couple of reasons.
1) a woman was thought of as a burden to her father as she did not work and was an expense to keep.
2) a high dowery would be offered in hopes of inticing a man of higher social standing to accept her as a wife.
3) Both men and women way back when tended to live at home until they were married, and a dowery would help the couple start off (kinda like wedding gifts now)

A bride price was usually only attributed to young women of high social standing. The bride price was set so that the parents were assured that the man wishing to marry their daughter was financially able to take care of her in the manner in which they felt she deserved.

In some cultures the higher the bride price offered for a girl the higher her social standing went. If she was considered from desireable stock or had attributes highly sought after there could be a bidding war for a girl.

Rat,

Dude, you gotta do this.  I mean, think about it, if you give her a dozen camels, six goats, a pair of shoes, two gophers and a partridge in a pear tree, and in return she gives you her...    dude.  Major profit.  Then you'd have all that stuff and a slave! You could then sell the farm and go to Paris (provided you get a good price for the pears).  You're giving yourself stuff at interest here.  God, I wish Best Buy would give me that option.

i, too, agree with the others. this girl sounds like a stupid get who doesn't know anything and needs a decent education in what things mean and what she's worth, which is not much. keep your money, goats, and camels and find another girl who likes going barefoot.

i heard tell that he already has a bull sized dick *g* so now all he needs is a girl who doesn't want to tease with him or expect anything (and who pays her full way, not just half)

Well, as it turns out, the dowry thing was a poorly expressed, poorly discussed misunderstanding. I shouldn't have even raised the topic for discussion here in this forum. What's done's done and that's that.

bye,
Bob

To expand on the above statement: Creating this thread was a very big mistake. I shouldn't have done it, and I am sorry. I was being teased and took it poorly. Now I have to try to make amends to someone.

Heck, no big deal, Bob. It was a good laugh. And we all fall for a tease now and then.
